My own first thought was that he checked his money dipstick, discovered that his vat was full enough to last the rest of his life, and so he decided to take it and go home. I would.

No reason why the Pope would have influenced him.

I was watching The Price is Right and they preempted it to watch the Pope visit the World Trade Center Memorial. F**k that, I'd rather watch Drew Carrey.

Never trust a guy who cries in public. Maybe they'll get someone with balls and a backbone this time. Is there a Republican with balls and a backbone?

No he hasn't. You can't even tell the republicans have the majority. Obama does whatever he pleases, legally or not.

its not like it really matters...

the house is so dysfunctional that ANYBODY that gets elected to be speaker of the party is going to be just as bad as he was!!

they are not worried about doing what is best for the country....
all they are worried about is stonewalling the other party, and doing whatever their corporate sponsors tell them to do.

I don't think the Pope likes conservatism in America. Boehner? He doesn't have the balls of a baby girl and I hear he cries in public. Like most Republicans he has no backbone and tries to play it both ways. He can't be as popular as a communist so the Republican Party must LEAD and the sheep will follow because we will have their RESPECT. Republicans cannot be popular so we must show LEADERSHIP. we need a principled conservative to take over as Speaker. A moderate is someone without principles who tries to play to the right and left but who winds up pleasing no one. It's about time true Republicans showed their principles as the communists do.

The Pope? I think he had nothing to do with this. He shouldn't interfere in American internal affairs but should lead the Church.

I think Eric Cantor had more of an influence on Boehner's decision to leave.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Cantor

" In June 2014, in his bid for re-election, Cantor lost the Republican primary to economics professor Dave Brat in an upset that surprised political analysts. In response Cantor announced his early resignation as House Majority Leader, and several weeks later, he announced his resignation from Congress, which took effect August 18, 2014. Immediately thereafter, Cantor accepted a position as vice chairman of investment bank Moelis & Company at a compensation of $3.4 million.[3] As the US House majority leader, Cantor earned an annual salary of $193,400.[4]"

Just my opinion, Boehner has been a hack for big business since he took office.

It will be interesting to see what rewards he will reap for past favors?

I think he just got fed up with fighting people who are supposed to be on the same team. It doesnt matter who is speaker. The Republicans will still be the party of no. I am shifting from Independent to Dems faster and faster. The Repubs need to grow up, put down their bank statements and start to work for the people instead of sulking like little boys. He had indicated previously that he was thinking of retirement. And with the election coming up..why keep beating a dead horse.
