Good morning! Just a heads up. At Sams club if you are a veteran or active military when you join your eligible for either a $15 or $25 gift card just show your va card. You get the gift card every year when you renew too so make sure you renew at the membership desk and let them know your a vet!! I see too many every day who did not know this. Thank you all for your service! It is appreciated!

Yea well I work at the membership desk, its not something they tell everyone but it should be the first question they ask when you sign up. There is usually a bonus pkg of free food too if you sign up or renew near vetrans day, 4th of july, or memorial day! But you NEED to do it at the membership desk and ask for it! Not everyone will just give it to you without asking! Again this is available every year with renewal!

I don't use the VA and I didn't retire from the military. I have 2 PHs and would qualify for VA but use my private insurances. I just enlisted, served and was in Vietnam as a medic and got out when my time was up. Lowes gives me a Vets discount,no questions, Home Depot doesn't because I don't use the VA.. I don't have a VA card and don't want one .....f**k Home Depot!

Gotcha! Well we take whatever proof, I just said va because thats what I see the most. In florida vetrans can have a V put on their drivers license, that works too, or even your dd214

whiskey, all you have to do to get a va card is go to a facility. don't need to be eligible for medical benefits but you do have other benefits that every veteran gets. and besides lowes and home depot i eat bkfast, lunch and dinner at three different restaurants in my town every veterans day. that card will get you tons of free stuff and consideration from merchants and businesses. i've had mine for decades even when i didn't qualify for medical care because of my income.

I just never used it jrbogie.I have medicare and two union pensions (distillery and as a game warden) with retiree benefits that coordinate with medicare. I avoid using it because I want every dollar possible to go to those without my good luck. I have 2 PHs which swould give me some sort of priority over some others but my wounds are healed, long time ago, and so I want the best medical attention available for others more needy. At my VFW I know guys who b*tch and cry about the VA and some of them never left the states except to ride around on a boat a hundred miles from the enemy and never even got their feet wet..thanks for your comments though brother!

you missed my point whiskey. don't use any va medical benefits as you chose but a va id card can still do you a ton of good. google is your friend, my brother. va.gov and don't bother with medical benefits but do check on other goodies that a registered veteran can get. i think you said that you prefer lowes over home depot because they don't require proof of being a vet. well that won't work here, my friend. not only does lowes require the card here they only offer discounts to vets with a SERVICE CONNECTED DISABILITY. and think about your fellow veterans like me. by registering you become one more vet in the files. that means one more boost in funding, read doctors and nurses, that reduce veteran wait times.
