Quote from indoubt:
Now how could "Adam" never have been born?

Well, according to the Scriptures...

Genesis 1:26 And saying is the Elohim, "Make will We humanity in Our image, and according to Our likeness, and sway shall they over the fish of the sea, and over the flyer of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all land life, and over every moving animal moving on the land." 27 And creating is the Elohim humanity in His image. In the image of the Elohim He creates it. Male and female He creates them. 28 And blessing them is the Elohim. And saying to them is the Elohim, "Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth, and subdue it. And sway over the fish of the sea, and over the flyer of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all the earth, and over all life moving on the land."

Well, this is one way to understand it. But someone had to be first. So, does that mean Adam didn't have a bellybutton?

Quote from jilian43:
Original sin was committed by Adam and Eve. They tried to become god with God, we bear the consequences through our physical death. Through Christ's incarnation He detroys all obstacles which separated man from God.

bigd, Adam was given free will.

Yes Adam was given free will, and even more. The Scriptures say he was...

Genesis 1:28 And blessing them is the Elohim. And saying to them is the Elohim, "Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth, and subdue it. And sway over the fish of the sea, and over the flyer of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all the earth, and over all life moving on the land."

But did Adam try to be god with God? Remember what Jesus said to the Jews?

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, that `I say you are gods'? 35 If He said those were gods, to whom the word of God came (and the scripture can not be annulled),

The origin of the word sin means: to miss the mark.

I do not use the word sin myself, as it has christian connotations that I do not agree with. I think we all "miss the mark", but that is of course how we learn to perfect our aim...

As far as "original" sin.. I personally think the entire concept was twisted into something that makes us atone for our very existence.. and why would that be? (great control tactic) God creates us in *love*, yet we need to beg for his forgiveness because we exist? And if we make a mistake, well God will send us to the fiery pits of hell! Please..

To me, if the story is to make any sense at all, "original sin" is when the illusion of separation from God first permeated the mind of man... THE single most important "missing the mark" there could ever be... Jmo

What was the first mark missed, if (and I agree) missing the mark is sin? Adam and Eve were the first to miss the target of God's favor.

The "original sin" is what gave all of us a sin nature, a natural tendancy to sin. A baby is born with a natural tendancy to sin. Some have said that one of a baby's first lies is to cry when he is neither hungry nor needing a diaper change. He cries because he has learned that it results in attention.

Do aborted children go to heaven? Most will answer, yes. Then why are we so opposed to abortion if the unborn baby goes to a better place than this earth? I do not favor abortion and this question troubles me.

Sin is a disease (for lack of a better term) passed down through the generations. God expects us to try to fight the effects of the disease. He knows none of us can completely defy it's effects. The cure for the disease is the Holy Spirit. Adam chose to eat of the fruit, in defiance of God's word, and contracted this disease. All men (and woMEN) have this disease. It is incurable in this world, but can only be helped by the relatively small doses of Holy Spirit one can glean here. The original act that begat this disease was Adam's desire to be God. In essence, all sin is our own desire to be God. So, in this sense I believe in original sin.

my question is if all sin started from Adam and eve and we all originated from them , then by far we are all a product of incest!!! but then the new testament speaks on incest being a sin... so tell me... whats the real deal with Adam and eve?

this statement doesn't mean i don't believe in god, just not that story in the bible

I don't beleive in the book.. or anything it has to say for that matter. I don't like the word atheist... or agnostic. I am a naturalist who believes we are here by accident. if you disagree... I challenge you to show me the purpose of LIFE. If there is a god he did not have to create this world. For what purpose? For gods own amusement?and who is this entity you call god anyway? blind faith is simply ridiculous to me. But who knows, I could be very wrong. if i am... and if there is heaven and I get to it... I will let god know what a deviant bastard he is then he can go right ahead and and cast me off to hell. I'll flip him the bird the whole way down...

a little off topic... but not really.

The Bible is clear why God created anything, and everything. He created it for love. God is love.

There are two choices. He gave you that. Bow low to the sovereignty of God, or choose to be your own God.

The reward for choosing God is life. The reward for choosing yourself is death. Simple.

So, in answer to your challenge- the purpose of life is love.

okay, see that makes some sense, yes it does... well said... but ... why is love necessary? and if god is love why do so many people suffer through life? God is love is a pretty vague and abstract idea. can you elaborate on this?

Our pain is God's love... sort of sick isn't it?

Love is not necessary. God existed in a void. He needed nothing. He created because of love, because He is love. If you have ever felt love, you know the nature of God.

We suffer through life because we chose to. We chose to be God. And He let's us be our own God, for a time. Because He loves us He let us choose. We chose poorly.

And He also gives us a choice every day. And amazingly, people still choose themselves as their God, every day. It's our nature. We must fight it.
