True love is when you meet someone who makes you decide that you will make all of your decisions based on how it will affect that person and vice versa. It is putting another's feelings into every decision you make. You no longer think of how your decision will affect you but how it will affect your loved one. You will always ask, will this hurt him/her and if the answer is yes, then you do not do it. You really put the other persons needs before your own without feeling like you are missing out on something from the outside world. You are in a world of your own and you already have all that you need.

I so totally agree. If both people put their partner ahead of themselves, then a marriage will work very nicely...if one or both puts themselves first, it's probably not going to work out over the long term. I don't think there can be a love that is truly selfless because we always gain something from our interactions with others or else we can't afford to keep doing what we're doing, but this is about as close as we can come to it, I think.

You have to be considerate to your partner, I would never put anyone first, that does not work. Both are equal and give a 100% towards a relationship. Whenever i put someone a head of me they try and walk all over me.
True love, that special someone that takes your breath away. Your other half, the one you never get tired of, your best friend even over your girl friends. It's been a long journey came close a few times.

Karl that is why I said Vice versa. It has to be mutual. When it is mutual, it is both of you against the world and noone can break your bond no matter how hard they try because you are only there for eachother. It is like you dont even see a person of the opposite sex anymore and you are not interested because you already have all you need. It is rare but it is possible. It is like a meeting of the souls

There's an old saying: "If you lend someone $20 and never see them again, it was worth it."
The point is to determine a person's true character.
If you give a bit more to another and they respond by trying to "take", they do not deserve your attention. But, if they respond by giving more back in return, they are special.

I like that description, and I basically go about things that way. Thing is the last major relationship I was in started that way and it degraded back to me being selfish and taking her for granted. That was a few years ago and I feel I learned from my mistakes. I just hope I don't let it happen again.
The next problem is that so many girls seems to like being treated like crap that me doing what I feel is the right thing makes me look crazy and needy. bah

Robbie you just have to pick the right types of girls. If a girl responds to you treating her like a piece of meat and falls for it, she is not likely the kind of woman that you want to invest your heart in. The good girls who are worth it will expect you to approach them like a lady and they will respond in kind. A girl with self respect is the kind of girl you can marry and since she respects herself, she will likely respect you and the relationship.

I've always been of the mind that in life I am walking down a path and if a woman decides to share the path with me.. that's cool.. but I'm not stepping off the path just to make her happy... and she's free to walk away at any time.

That's beautifully written.....I'm feeling like something is missing, though.
I mean, technically, what you describe could be said between strangers, right?.....you will try not to hurt a stranger.....if a decision has to be made, it will be based on what is best for you both, and hurts each of you the least...
The same could be said of a grocer and customer.....or a boss and his subordinate...or a doctor and patient.
.......there's more, Miss Indoubt......give us Part II, the sequel.
