This has been an interesting thread. I understand the hardship of those who do not have a pic online.. whether it is because they can't afford a scanner, have no clue how to download, upload a pic or simply afraid of where that pic might end up later. But we all have our reasons for not answering a faceless email just as they have their reasons for not placing a pic. I understand what Ky is saying... but he is talking about chatting with friends only. I was impressing more about a deeper level of correspondence. If you got an email from someone, and after reading their profile, you have found something of interest.. would you be willing to keep that correspondence going in the same direction for a month before you got the chance to see a pic of them? Or, would you find yourself losing interest.. wonder if you are " wasting" your time for fear of finding out that you are not physically attracted to them when that month is up and you do see a pic?

you're so right I know I'm a hypocrite, but I don't look at the ones without a picture. I couldn't consider going further with a person without a picture. I need to be attracted to that person. I am kind of picky and I do place a lot of emphasis on looks. Although I learned a lot from my ex-girlfriend, but that's for another thread.
So, yes, I do need a pic in order to go beyond 'friends'. Thanx for bringing us back on topic

kyboy.. I love to see the passion come out in people who believe something so strongly and stands beside it no matter what lol Trust me.. whether that is appealing to most or not.. I'm not sure but I sure do get whupped for it sometimes

I would talk to people without a pic, but as far as considering a lady for more than just friends.....I would need a pic 1st. Yes, I know, it's hypocritical. I'm having fun making friends. ky, I have a lot of respect for you.

Ky brought up the fact in an email to me.. well, what about blind people? They don't see one another and fall in love. True.. but most of them are not seeking someone from the internet! They are most likely looking in their own area.. where they can actually talk to this person on a daily basis

I think you/I can get so much more by talking with someone in person. On the I-net, it's kind of linear. It's easier to project your/myself the way I want to be seen. In person, you have body language, tone of voice, attitudes or other things you may not want to reveal too soon. And, plus, you get to see how the other person reacts to different situations. There is a whole other dimension(s) in person. More realistic

I think that..back before pics were placed on the net like this.. that I really enjoyed the chatting. Sometimes.. a pic can get in the way of getting to know someone.

that is VERY true. I learned that from chinagirl. I thought she was some old hag, no disrespect, but it turns out she is only 18. My perception of her pic influenced my perception of her and the credibility of her comments. Sounds like she is pretty sharp, challenging....

Simple.
Perhaps because people read the words but have to relate them to some fantasy face on their minds , not that it would invalidate the contents of the comments , but images have the power to communicate and add more to the words alone.

Does it have to be a bad thing?
I mean , the mix of physical and Intellectual attraction need to be there right?
While i know i could not possibily speak for every guy here , a photo sure helps me make the final decision on the romantic aspect of meeting someone.
Now if we are talking just friends , i have many on my friends list that have no pictures.
In fact i communicate with 2 people through email and have no idea of what they look like.
We are good friends , and seriously i have no curiosity about their looks.
Do i make any sense to you?

troy.. yes.. because I also correspond with several on here and other sites with no pic... and it doesn't bother me in the least. And as I have stated before.. as friends, I have no issues with them not having a pic. But I am not here to find friends.. although, in the process.. it's great making friends. I would have to have a pic if I found I had a bigger interest than as a friend.
If this was a " find-a-friend" site, I could easily forgo ever seeing a pic.
Still.. how many times have we met someone on the street who we did not find instantly attractive.. but still got to know them.. and found that there was indeed an attraction.. much deeper than just the looks?
