As long as you are honest and upfront, and they don't mind, then it is ok. Once you reach the point of sex though, you need to let them know what they might be risking. Once you get beyond the point of friendship, they have a right to know if you are seeing someone else too.

He had been hurt and is terrified of getting hurt again. I am comfortable with the first guy. We can talk about anything. The second guys drives me totally insane. He is the most incredible lover I have ever been with. The thing is I don't really see any kind of meaningful future with either of them, so why not have both?

I think the problem lies in your definition of "Date". You seem to think date means sex. Ask Man # 1 this question. I'm sure he'll be able to tell you why not.
While your at it, tell man #2 too.
By telling them both, you won't be playing anyone, you'll just quite possibly be playing all alone.
