I posted a thread in sex and dating forum about chivalry and was given some pretty odd feedback. Either go there and read it or give some of your own thought.

One of the things you need to learn is that there is no such thing as a thread where only Laides or Guys will reply. All threads are open and you will get feedback from all sides. The other mental leap you should think about making is that your perspective is not the only one or the normal one.
The "odd" replies you received say more about you than they do of those who posted. Once you have a feel for the flow of the forums and the diverse ways in which people participate here, then you will be able to filter the responses more appropriately.
Good guy, bad guy, chivalry, gentleman . . . these words are thrown around in the ethereal an held to fairy-tale standards, but in the end you will find that the best women here want consistent honesty, integrity, appreciation, and respect over gestures, gifts, and self-serving public acts of subjugation.
But we'll just let them say it in their own words, shall we?

I won't go and check out your other thread because I don't care for that particular forum myself.
But I will tell you that yes I do appreciate honest to goodness old fashioned chivalry. However I don't expect it now a days. I am very pleasantly surprised occassionally though.

I think most women including myself feel that chivalry is dead, however on occasion I'm truly impressed when I see it. I love it, it really touches me, whether it's a gentleman helping a woman on with her coat, or giving up his seat for a lady. It's wonderful to see that it does still exist, even if it isn't like it use to be. Nice topic. The heart is for Valentines Day, have a great one every- body

I appreciate chivalry when it is a sincere gesture. I am not a big fan of someone doing something to try an impress someone else.
I would be more appreciative of a stranger that holds the door for me, at the local gas station, opposed to a person faking sincerety, because he thinks that is what I want.
My thing is,...be yourself (general)Use the good qualities that were instilled in you. If someone does not appreciate them. Then, maybe that someone is not the person for you.

Very well said!
But I have found that a great number of women don't seem to appreciate it... maybe they have had their share of th fake chivalry/gentlemanly behavior and suspect when a guy holds a door or says "good morning" in passing that they are some kind of turd.

After all the dirty looks women gave me when I used to do it, I'd say no. If they wanna be like that when im trying to be a gentleman, then I let them hold their own f**king doors.
Thats what happens when your a gentleman, you get spit on.

I agree. But I'm not sure it should be called "chivalry" in this day and age. Maybe we need to refer to it as what it truly is...just good old fashioned manners and common courtesy.

First, this will give you an idea of what chivalry is:
Chivalry
So, no, in that case.
You probably mean things like holding open doors and whatnot? Perhaps you should elaborate.
I take it that you feel you perform chivalrous acts but receive insufficient appreciation.
Is that right?

I'm in agreement that you shouldn't expect appreciation when performing a "chivalrous" act. That takes the whole point of doing it away. Personally, I prefer thinking in terms of the fruit of the Spirit. This lifestyle includes love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, and temperance...
Holding doors open and whatnot is just the result of being raised by a good momma!
