I'd like to hear from some unbias individuals with some sense and sensiblity regarding working definitions of single, married and seperated. For example, when a couple has been married for 40 years, yet living and operating seperate households for the last 6 of those years, but not legally seperated or filing for a divorce; What would you consider their status regarding dating ? What would you think is acceptable for introductions? Should they describe themselves as Single, Married or Seperated ? Why do you think they have not completed the divorce process?

Hey If ur married UR MARRIED that is a very important fact that must be clearly stated in your profile. If you can't get a divorce for Religious, Financial, Or Children reasons, just state that plainly also. Most people will understand:JMO

I wish I had an answer for you....
I have on my profile divorced because that is what I am, but there are several on this site that put single. To me if you have been married and are legally divorced you should not be putting single. I put divorced even when I was just seperated, but I had my ex-husband move out and a wk later I filed for divorce and there was no question. I think that it should be your choice, but if reading a profile I see the word seperated I run quickly the other way. Seperated in my mind could mean we are taking a break and things might work out. JMO

I've never been married so my reply is very constricted due to my lack of experience. In my opinion, classifications are very tricky because definite distinctions leave no room for "exceptions" and "conditions". You may consider yourself single because the relationship has terminated for you emotionally and physically but you are still lawfully married to that person. I assume that single refers to someone who is available emotionally and can commit to a relationship without compromise. If you desire to classify your "status", make sure the other person is fully aware of what your status really is in all aspects. How you categorize yourself may be perceived as false representation if all the facts aren't presented. But who wants to air out and explain their baggage to a stranger???? I haven't helped much, guess I'm trying to say that you should not post yourself, but present yourself so the other person gets more information......

if you are married then you're not truly available
seperated,you can do what you like and the other person has to be able to trust you and deal with it because there is always that chance.most of the time,anyway.
single is being never married.i put divorced if there are both choices because other people should know there is a past.

WORKING DEFINITIONS:
SINGLE- LIVE BY YOURSELF AND NOT HAVING SEX.
MARRIED-LIVING WITH SPOUSE AND PAYING BILLS WHILE NOT HAVING SEX.
SEPARATED-LIVING APART FROM SPOUSE,STILL PAYING BILLS,AND PAYING ATTORNEY FEES WHILE NOT HAVING SEX.
DIVORCED-SAME AS SEPARATED,BUT NOW YOU COME WITH 'BAGGAGE',FURTHER HURTING YOUR ALREADY LIMITED CHANCES OF HAVING SEX.

If your legally married, but not living with that person for whatever amount of time, and do not have a legal seperation it all depends on the people. For instance, if they continue to wear their wedding bands everyday, and go by Mr & Mrs, or filing as married, then you are married. Its when you start acting, and showing your single again that makes the difference.
Also, you should have a talk with your significant other about the issue so no one gets hurt in the end. Make it clear you want to see other people.

Married. As in you can meet, fall in love, promise a rose garden, the rest of your life, children, a fabulous home and yacht, but the bottom line is when they ask you to sign the paperwork on marriage to your new amore, THEN what do you do? Stammer about how you forgot to get divorced?

Ok, Here's one for you guys...I have an OverSeas marriage but, the US does not recognize it..So, I put Single. Anyone who gets to know me or about me hears this, It's not a Secret and I have no Intentions of marring again. just one big ass mistake. So, Does this make me wrong on my profile?
