I basically alone as well. My girls have grown up and left the nest, so it's basically me and my labradork retrievers. It does get lonely, but I can temper that with the fact that at least I have my health, that I'm not over in Iraq getting shot at by a bunch of gooks, things like that. It's all good, and all about what I make of it.

Yes, the holiday's are hard for me. I was married for 29 years and been used to hosting the big meal and all of the company in my then large home. The kids are grown and spend the holidays with their in-laws, friends, and their dad/wife. Last year I fixed a traditional dinner, but it was run here and there and no one really ate so this year I thought I'd have breakfast before they went to everyone else's house. Well, dad beat me to that, he's having dinner at 10:30 am! (strange but true)..so I don't think I'm doing anything except working on my house. Parents are gone and siblings doing their own thing with their families. I'm not sure what Christmas holds yet.
Good luck to everyone and have a blessed holiday. It will get better...it's mostly how you look at things. Do something you enjoy...a hobby, movie, read a good book, etc. And yes, volunteer where you can.

Definitely! As many others far more learned than I have said, the Holidays are the loneliest time of the year. As someone mentioned in another posting, see how many people are here Christmas Day.

LMAO am always alone during the holidays, never had a someone to share it with, and chances are the rest of the family is busy with other affairs.
It's fine by me, hate getting a bunch of stuff I hate, and feeling like a dingbat cuz I don't give enough out.(think not giving enough hurts more)
Either way, being along during the holidays is actually pretty great. You get to spend the time with the only person who matters... you.

Just curious if anyone else out there struggles with the holidays like i do. Being single really is hard, especially when you so badly want to have that special someone in your life. Being up here in the northeast doesnt help much either with the lack of population concentration like most other states have. I truly struggle with meeting new folks, even here on the computer, so i am just curious, is the holidays a struggle for you too?
holidays = get-togethers and of course it's very tough to be alone--what i do when i'm alone esp this thanksgiving i will be is maybe watching a TV marathon of the same program or watch one involving TV shows with the same common theme--eg: watch TV land --and think of yourself there celebrating the holiday with them--i use to love seeing the Honeymooners over and over--and when i needed a laugh a show like that sure gives you that--perhaps if you like dancing see if someone is holding a pre thanksgiving singles dance or one this saturday nite--go there and make up for lost time--good luck

I am hoping when all is said and done that the holidays won't wind up being too difficult. My ex is Jewish, I am Christian. Although the new Mrs. he has picked out is also Christian. But I've already said the Jewish holidays he can have, the Christian ones are mine. Of course, Thanksgiving will likely have to be split......not sure how that is gonna work out yet.
This year though we are all still in the same house. I thought he would take the kids to his cousin's as we've spent the last five years there but he decided he is cooking this year instead. I offered and was ignored............well he can do it then.

The past few years I've said I wouldn't spend another holiday alone. However, the holidays are here and I'm alone on the farm with my horses and dog. My mom was supposed to come down but there was a health issue. I've been divorced for 9 years. I'm typically an upbeat and very funny person but I find the limited amount of dating I do unfufilling and disappointing. My lifestyle is outside the mainstream. I'm well educated, articulate but my kids have 4 feet and take alot of time and money. I've mentored young girls and fostered animals in need.I have good friends who live a good distance away and we remain in close contact via phone and email. I would be nice to find an intelligent, educated, animal lover who is communicative to share a holiday meal.. I can certainly sympathize and relate to the many people who have shared their feelings on this post.

The holidays are hard when you are alone. It is even harder when you are with someone and still feel lonely. I am in the situation where I am with my significant other, which is a guy, yes I am gay, but we have drifted apart. I am away from my family and friends, and I don't really have anyone to talk with. In your situation, try to spend time with any friends you might have. It helps feel the void in your life. I hope you the best, and I hope you try and have a happy holiday.
