I think high fructose corn syrup and availability of fast but nutritionally unhealthy foods have a lot to do with it.
I also think that the person making the comment about how europeans go to the market almost every day and buy smaller quantities of fresh foods has a lot to do with it, too.
You can tell a lot about a people by how much processed foods they eat. I have made it a mission to stay away from anything that has a shelf life for much more than a few days, and just by doing that, I've pretty much cut out most unhealthy foods from my diet.
Exercise is a big issue, too (or lack thereof).

Pleasingly plump is better than no rump! Too much of anything is bad, but not enough is equally bad. It is a package deal. What looks good on one woman won't work for another. Besides, carriage counts a lot. I have a 23 year old friend who is a nice young girl, but she does not walk, she kind of slumps and falls forward. She laments not finding a guy. Trying to find a way to delicately tell her to stand up and walk, and see what happens.

Well, my ass is never eating again. Just had a physical for life insurance and apparently have put on weight since this summer. No more dates - they all want to eat out, and no more food.

Bama...me too....But I got it figured out...it ain't the dates...it's not having dates and sitting on my ass in front of this computer...It's a DH side effect...I'm spreading like jelly...But I'm either gonna get a bigger chair where I won't notice or I gotta go on a New Year's diet....

Kitty, I'm doing the same thing! Honestly!! Spreading far and wide! LOL! The nurse weighed me first and THEN took my blood pressure, which was high. Go figure! I bout stroked out after getting on the damn scales. She did take it again after a few minutes once I'd had time to accept my fate and it was back to normal.

LOL I do remember when having dates for each meal, for days on end, did put some weight on. No clue why 99% of the time that is all a guy can think of to do for a date. I just started suggesting other things to do besides eating. So don't stop dating, just stop letting them feed you LOL

You know it's weird. I eat healthy organic food 'til I got no more money and then I go to the foodbank and it's THAT FOOD that always makes me gain a few pounds. Damn- have you ever noticed how many fat people are at the food bank?
and as mentioned earlier alot of people dont bike or walk- true.
I bike and walk alot, but most don't.

I honestly think all the "organic" hype is pretty much BS. If you have ever had a landscaper dump a bunch of "organic" fertilizer over the neighbor's yard, that oversprays onto your own, so you have to go and ask for the label so you can check it, you might get an idea of what I mean. And the smell, oh LORD that STUNK up the whole neighborhood for weeks. Maybe some people could have sensitivities to some things that would have them better off eating it, but since we have all been living on the regular stuff for so long, just don't think it is worth the extra cost.
