I think I had some of the things mentioned above but I agree with Michael on the vivid imagination play. I lived in the country and few kids around so I would go off exploring with my dog. In the trees I would rake the leaves back to make the outline of a house, complete with the different rooms. Boxs and old "stuff" were furiniture or whatever I made it.
Also had a horse and I would ride out in the back field, to me it was the Wild West and went on forever, in reality it was probably small so my Mom could keep an eye on me. Again Rin Tin Tin at my side. Slingshot for my weapon. Did I mention I was a Tomboy??

I remeber this game but can't think of the name of it, but you rolled a ball up into it and the ball would come flying back at you so you had to catch it. That was the year I knew there really wasn't a Santa my big brother found the hiding place and we would carefully take them out of the box and play with them, then put them back in the box so mom and daddy didn't know. LOL

The original,Betsy Wetsy .... you guessed it .... she messed it! My brother poked her eye out.
My friend and I would save the money we earned until we got a whole dolloar. We would walk downtown to the 5 & 10cent store, about five miles. We took our dolls in our carriage (shared). We spent nearly the whole dollor on doll clothes, just like real grown ups, then we shared a soda and walked home! We were ten years old! No wonder our young children are becoming obese now. Can you picture a ten year old walking that far in a day!
You're all so right about the imagination and playing out doors... I was quite an outdoor girl back then... we were hunters, Cowboys and Indians, we had forts in trees and along the rr tracks. We played bad guy - good guy, climbed roofs, jumped from the hay loft when we lived out in the country, made igloos from the snow, made our own skating rinks. Then there was lot baseball... played until dark... and yes, we played kick-the-can in New York.
Inside we'd (sisters & brother) play in the attic... dress up, school and house.
Thanks for the memories, again guys

I was raised on the family farm ( I still farm) I loved those little cast iron farm toys--tractors etc. Still have a few in the attic--but a little red wagon always came in handy. I don't dare buy any toys for my grand kids today--they are full of led paint and from China. May get them a Bambi book. Something made here in USA. I did get some chinese checkers though as a kid.

I love my convertible blue peddle car that I peddled all around the block. My brother got one that was a fire truck. After we got too big to actually sit in it and peddle it, he would push me in it.. and take the damn corner wayyyyyyyyy too fast lol Ya reckon he meant to do dat?

I was reading all of the threads about what was a good toy to bring back. Except for the dolls, I work part time at a Toy Store. The majority of the products are back, but mostly out of plastic, erector sets, slinky, we do have metal jacks, pick up sticks, tiddley winks, I was also able to find a small supply of Plastigoop for my Thingmaker. Bought out the whole inventory. Tinker toys are back, still the same, Lincoln Logs are a bit rough, I remember when they were as smooth as a school marms leg. Hula Hoops with shot in them were called shoop shoop hula hoop. I just refurbished a horse with springs. I can relate to you with tears in my eyes.

Well I can remember spending hours on end playing with empty wooden thread spools. There was so many great things you could do with them. Go bowling, build a tower, roll them up a ramp and have them come back. Wow, the fun you could have with something so simple. My kids always loved to play with them when they went to my parents house, and now my grandkids still love them......so simple.....but so much fun.
