The previous thread was closed, but there was only one answer on it... the Forks. Although it is an interesting place to visit often and has baseball, outdoor entertainment and shopping, a river walk, Children's Museum and green space, there are so many other things to do in our fair city and province.
Winnipeg has lots of parks, unlike most other cities. We have designated green space in every area, some areas having many and some being much larger, like la Barriere, Kildonan and St vital Parks. Kildonan park has an outdoor theatre; Rainbow Stage.
In winter most of the parks have sledding, cross country ski trails and skating ponds. It is all in the Winter leisure guides you will get in the mail.
The Assiniboine park is out main city park. It has a Conservatory, Zoo, English flower garden and sculpture garden, outdoor stage and huge green space for other events and sports.
We have the Winnipeg Ballet Company which is world renowned, a fine Symphony Orchestra and a lovely art gallery. The Manitoba museum is also well regarded
Slip a canoe into the winding rivers to see another side of Winnipeg or take a cruise or paddlewheel boat ride.
Try the outdoor dining at Corydon. We have a terrific amount of great restaurants here in Winnipeg to suit nearly all tastes and certainly ethnic varieties.
Camping and fishing are fwonderful in this province. We have world renowned beaches in Grand beach, but a plethora of beaches to choose from besides that. Finding water and a good fishing spot is not a difficult thing to do in manitoba. Fishing in the Whiteshell and up North is phenomenal.
A favourite place to camp is Spirit Sands, in Spruce Woods near Carberry. It is Manitoba's desert, with sand dunes, cactus and camping, fishing, a small beach, canoing and more. You can even rent a yurt if tenting isn't your style. There are too many to name, but you can do as I do with my teen, try them all! We visit a new one and revisit favourites every year. We have fabulous provincial parks to visit. There are too many to name, but you could visit one every year and it would take you 55 years!
* PLEASE NOTE*
Entrance into Manitoba Provincial Parks will be free for 2 years, to everyone (2009-2010)so go on and visit as many as you wish!
I love Winnipeg and Manitoba... go visit more of it and you will too!

I went camping at Spruce Woods last summer and it was great. One of the best things about camping there is the privacy you get in the camp sites. I took a nice long hike through the carberry desert while I was in the area, definitely a must see. The Devil's Punch Bowl is amazing.

The walk to the punchbowl can be quite long in the summer's heat though! I have done it several times in 30C and it was like being in hell, so the devil's punch bowl is appropo after that walk. Thank goodness we took lots of water or the trip back would have been like the cartoon desert thirst!
I forgot to add that they do have a covered wagon ride you can make reservations or and there are several different paths and some guided tours, depending on your stamina.
