I agree. I enjoyed pretty much everything that guy wrote. Some of his non-fiction stuff got a little dry, but the guy definitely know how to do sci-fi. I was pretty sad when he died.

i love crighton, those his biography was a little obnoxious, i never realize he was a rich old preppie. half the book was about him skiing in the alps or climbing Everest or yachting.

I think this thread has done a great job covering the great male authors (many of my favorites have been mentioned) but has been rather sparse on the great female authors.

Anybody remember Andre Norton?
wikipedia.......Often called the Grande Dame of Science Fiction and Fantasy by biographers such as J. M. Cornwell[20] and organizations such as Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America,[21] Publishers Weekly,[22] and Time, Andre Norton wrote novels for over 70 years. She had a profound influence on the entire genre, having over 300 published titles read by at least four generations of science fiction and fantasy readers and writers. Notable authors who cite her influence include Greg Bear, Lois McMaster Bujold, C. J. Cherryh, Cecilia Dart-Thornton,[23] Tanya Huff,[24] Mercedes Lackey, Charles de Lint, Joan D. Vinge, David Weber, K. D. Wentworth, and Catherine Asaro.

Lois McMaster Bujold?
wikipedia.....Lois McMaster Bujold (born November 2, 1949) is an American author of science fiction and fantasy works. Bujold is one of the most acclaimed writers in her field, having won the prestigious Hugo Award for best novel four times, matching Robert A. Heinlein's record. Her novella The Mountains of Mourning won both the Hugo Award and Nebula Award. In the fantasy genre, The Curse of Chalion won the Mythopoeic Award for Adult Literature and was nominated for the 2002 World Fantasy Award for best novel, and both her fourth Hugo Award and second Nebula Award were for Paladin of Souls. In 2011 she was awarded the Skylark Award.[1] In 2013 she was awarded the Forry Award.[2]

Anne MaCaffery,Tanya Huff,.....? Great writers with great books!

Philip K. D*ck is one of my favorites, too. It started for me when I saw Blade Runner for the first time in high school. It quickly became one of my favorite movies. I then went on to read several of his books. I need to start re-reading some of them!

I was hit and miss in this area till I found, a few years ago, a book titled 'The world turned upside down' it was full of Sci Fi stories...I really forgot how much I had enjoyed sci fi from my youth till I read this book. I found some stories..one in particular, that really struck home.
