The other problem is that global warming, once started, tends to accelerate. As the Arctic ocean thaws it reflects less light and warms faster. Areas of permafrost in Siberia are thawing, releasing lots of methane, which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Forested areas become vulnerable to disease and fire, and the trees die off, releasing more CO2. So I think things could get much worse unless measures are taken. The things we need to do to combat global warming are things that make our life better anyway: more efficient use of energy, less polluting energy sources, and renewable energy.
