1) The seat and lid are always down when not in use. After all, no one really wants to look down into a the basin of the commode?
2) I actually sit to use the restroom. The restroom is not my favorite room to clean; so, not as though I want to clean anything of that nature up as well.

Ok I admit, I sit when I need to go. Why not? It's more comfortable that way and I don't make a mess. But I have always made sure the seat was down. It's only right and fair.
And Drummaster, why are you calling women lazy cause they complain about having to put the seat down when you are the one putting it up? Makes me wonder who the real lazy person is.

Remember when you were little and Mom told you " Don't step in that Puddle / Mud, whatever" Its kinda like the same thing, " Look Before You Sit" It just looks better to me to see the seat down, instead of the Naked Bowl staring at ya. If I wanted that I'd go to a Mens room and watch the Urinal on the wall

lol I never turn on the light when I am up at night. It is very uncomfortable to sit on a toilet seat that isn't there. One night the cat was drinking from the toilet and I sat on him, pushing him down into the water. He came up clawing and hissing. Talk about a wake up call! So I aked that the seat and the lid be put down.

not all woman are like this, 3 sons sometimes they leave it up and then they don't. life is too short to worry about little things.
For those who really don't like the seat left up duct tape it down, or get the new seat retractor about $50.00 kinda cool.

While in Malaysia I had to straddle a hole in the floor. Supposed to be similar to a bidet.  The muslins are in control of bathrooms. There's no TP just a hose, YUCK!!!! No doors and they are for BOTH sexes. Of course if you're wearing a burka no one sees/cares but a little gal from the good ole USA in walking shorts is SCREWED!!!
