Just play fallout 3 or new Vegas on pc ps3 or 360. Like an interactive create your own apocalyptic senerio. Be as good it as evil as u like. There's even a quest that turns u into a vampire (sort of). Right up ur alley

As much as I am a fan of the entire Fallout series, a video game is no replacement for a good book.

Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut is post apocalyptic, a quicker read, and little less heavy.
In the end it describes what the last colony of human beings evolve into after everybody else has disappeared.
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells isn't exactly post apocalyptic but the end result might as well be post apocalyptic.
I'm also a fan of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, 1984 by George Orwell, and Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner. In the latter, an individual's inability to adjust to a massively overpopulated world leads to the beginning of society's breakdown.

Farnham's Freehold by Robert A. Heinlein. Not only a great (although the story seems dated by today's standards) post-apocalyptic story, but a good 'instructional' guide for survival and how society works. Still used by a lot of the survivalist groups as a manual for social dynamics of authority in an extreme situation.

"Eon" by Greg Bear isn't so much apocylyptic as hard sci-fi but features "The Death" which is WW III. Sequel "Eternity" goes into more of the post-apocylyptic aspects.

Lucifer's Hammer was a great book. I might have to dig that off of one of the shelves and re read it. There are a couple of books by SM Stirling, Dies the Fire, The Protector's War and the Meeting at Corvallis that are really good. Something happens (they call it the Change) and civilization as we know it ends. He also has another trilogy Island in the Sea of Time, Against the Tide of Years and On the Oceans of Eternity which is about going back in time. Really first rate stuff.

The other than Science fiction post apocalyptic is my other favorite to read.
False Dawn by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro is one of my personal favorites. A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller is also a VERY good tale and of course The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a must read. Even though I'm not Mormon I fond Folk of the Fringe by Orson Scott Card to be an pretty good read too.
