As an atheist I am already well aware, that once people are driven by a delusion like the one of the existence of a deity, there is nothing crazy, that is beyond their scope of possible behavior.
But what I just stumbled upon is remarkable:
In 897, a trial was held over a pope's corpse exterred eight months after his death.
Source: http://www.law.uga.edu/dwilkes_more/his31_cadaver.html
In 1868/9, Robert Browning wrote a long poem, "The Ring And The Book" , which includes a description of the event:
“And at the word, the great door of the church
“Flew wide, and in they brought Formosus’ self,
“The body of him, dead, even as embalmed
“And buried duly in the Vatican
“Eight months before, exhumed thus for the nonce.
“They set it, that dead body of a Pope,
“Clothed in pontific vesture now again,
“Upright on Peter’s chair as if alive.
“Then, swallowed up in rage, Stephen exclaimed
“‘So, guilty! So, remains I punish guilt!
“‘Strip me yon miscreant of those robes usurped,
“‘And clothe him with vile serge befitting such!
“‘Then hale the carrion to the market-place;
“‘Let the town-hangman chop from his right hand
“‘Those same three fingers which he blessed withal;
“‘Next cut the head off, once was crowned forsooth:
“‘And last go fling all, fingers, head and trunk,
“‘In Tiber that my Christian fish may sup!’
“So said, so done: himself, to see it done,
“Following the corpse, they trailed from street to street
“Till into Tiber wave they threw the thing.

How about the Mormons baptizing someone after they have died? They can convert someone while they are in the grave.

Most likely because it would be rejected by most normal human beings. BTW, whom do they think are fooling?

Baptism for the dead
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Baptism for the dead, vicarious baptism or proxy baptism is the religious practice of baptizing a living person on behalf of one who is dead, with the living person acting as the deceased person's proxy. Those who practice this rite view baptism as an indispensable requirement to enter the Kingdom of God, and thus practice Baptism for the Dead to give those who have died without ever having had the opportunity to receive baptism the opportunity to receive it by proxy if they wish. Baptism for the Dead is best known as a doctrine of the Latter Day Saint movement, where it has been practiced since 1840. It is currently practiced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), where it is performed only in dedicated temples, as well as in several (but not all) other current factions of the Latter Day Saint movement.

To me baptism is nothing but another tool to dominate through guilty.
"Baptizing cleans the newborn from the sin of conception"....so says the church. Please, somebody tell me of any other natural way (than lovemaking) to conceive a child.

I have the feeling if you could look into most religions dark corners you could find bizzare and weird practices in a great number of cases.
Afterall these religions(cults) are founded on superstitions (unnatural).

So let me see if I read the poem right.
A pope dies, and is exhumed some 8 months later because
of some un-named offence to the church is discovered and they
decided to punish the corpse for this offence.
So what did he do? Bone the mother superior and get her pregnant?

Never heard of this, but I can believe anything when it comes to churches. One of the Kennedys made a big donation and got a divorce from his wife of 29 years. His children got kicked out as illegitimate. I live in Amish country. They drive tractors all week, and black buggie on Sunday.

Here, horrible....
Self-Mummification
Sokushinbutsu were Buddhist monks or priests who allegedly caused their own deaths in a way that resulted in their being mummified. This practice reportedly took place almost exclusively in northern Japan around the Yamagata Prefecture. Between 16 and 24 such mummifications have been discovered.
For three years the priests would eat a special diet consisting only of nuts and seeds, while taking part in a regimen of rigorous physical activity that stripped them of their body fat. They then ate only bark and roots for another three years and began drinking a poisonous tea made from the sap of the Urushi tree, normally used to lacquer bowls. This caused vomiting and a rapid loss of bodily fluids, and most importantly, it killed off any maggots that might cause the body to decay after death. Finally, a self-mummifying monk would lock himself in a stone tomb barely larger than his body, where he would not move from the lotus position. His only connection to the outside world was an air tube and a bell. Each day he rang a bell to let those outside know that he was still alive. When the bell stopped ringing, the tube was removed and the tomb sealed.

The virgin birth: The greatest lie a woman has EVER told her husband....
Funny.
But none of that shit ever happened, at least not that one.
Read about horus, and mythra, etc..
How about Christmas being Jesus's birthday? Now that's a good one, considering the day whatever it's called idk, would be in July in modern times.
It comes from the founding religion that almost all religions came from, paganism. They would bring a tree in their house to worship nature.
I've also been told that wrapped presents originated from men giving them to other men in return for sexual favors from their sons. But I'm not sure of the facts on that one, but it seems to fit in my mind.
