Medicine is processed in either the kidney or the liver, many through the liver. Taking things like too much tylenol starts to kill off the liver & messes with hepatic (liver) enzyme production, which leads to a decreased ability to process things through the liver.
Depending on how little enzymes you produce determines whether it's reversible to a point or you have permanent liver damage. It also can progressively get worse if your body is producing less & less hepatic enzymes. That is when liver failure starts to set in.
You really need yup have a conversation with your doctor to understand what is going on with your body specifically.
