I have been counting down the days till my meeting with the Administrative Law Judge for the mediation segment of my divorce. I've been dreading this appointment for four months. Well, it's over!! Our mediation took three hours and fifteen minutes and cost us $350 each. It was very stressful and very intense, but I was smart enough to pay my lawyer to do all the talking for me. My ex represented himself, and so he was advised he should have obtained counsel. He signed a waiver, represented himself, and ended up probably regretting his decision to be cheap.
Our mediator was wonderful. If you are faced with having to go to mediation, if you get asked if you know of a mediator, consider asking your lawyer to choose Lisa Jones. Her office is in a cream colored house at 4212 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. She was professional and prepared and down to earth, funny, respectful and sympathetic to both sides. She knew her stuff and she took no crap and kept things flowing so time was kept productive. Since in this case, every minute cost money, we did not want time wasted
So at the end I signed the document, my ex signed it, the mediator signed it and my lawyer signed. It is legally binding precedent now. All it requires is a Judge's sign off. So I'm legally and financially separated. Just waiting in line for a final decree.
I feel like a giant weight has been lifted from my life. I know what debts I must be responsible and I know what he must finally assume and pay. I know that it is ordered that if he continues to obtain credit in my name without my knowledge or consent, he will be prosecuted under identity theft laws. I know that all joint bank accounts that I wanted closed are now ordered closed.
I have a better appreciation for the whole mediation process. Sure it was hard, but it's easier then appearing in open court! I just encourage you to take your lawyer with you because you cannot represent yourself to your best advantage under all that stress.
Hope this is helpful.

I am probably a little weird. When my divorce papers came in the mail almost seventeen years ago, I curled up in my lazy boy and cried for one last, long time.
I will never get divorced again. If I am ever persuaded to be married again, that person will be STUCK with me. And I hope that will be alright with them. I am so serious about this that I intend to make it a point in my prenup. If you think I am kidding, you might be wrong...
I do hope you feel a sense of an ability to move forward now.

Mediation......
I can see an attempt to reduce the burden on the legal system. But if it has gone that far do you think there is a point of no return? But then from past posts we all know that is nothing more than sending the kooks to your aide. Just another way of extracting money out of ya.
About he only thing that I can wish for you is that your stay here (and on other date sites) is very short. Those of us that have a lot of time under our belt might not have too much of a chance.
Why I was discussing this very point with a very good friend yesterday. With a miriade of other side topics!
GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the support and well wishes everybody.
Top, I've already been on this site, and spouting off, for two years
I had three dates with Mick in the spring of 2010, but we just did not mesh well enough to continue seeing each other. But he was a real nice gentleman for a first date in 20 years. Sadly, since then I only jump into threads on Utah Chat. Nobody wants to go out with me. Tazz met me, ask him if I'm worth going out with. I probably could do better out of state, but I've established roots here and financially I'm stuck. Just need a super intelligent, non Mormon, liberal, tall, masculine male over the age of 40 who wants a large, liberal, outspoken, intelligent, alternative spiritually active woman. (yeah, good luck in Utah )
At least I can vent and marginally socialize here. That's something
