What am I doing now? Offering counsel to another misguided dupe convinced that he suffers with a condition invented by the marketing departments of the pharmaceutical companies.
Try changing your diet to a more sensible one, get more exercise, and wean yourself off of the (costly) chemical poisons that are only going to kill you and result in billion$ in AMA kickbacks. It won't cost you a cent, you don't need doctors, and you'll be doing your health a real favor.

Excellent advice although I'm not sure that high cholesterol qualifies as a condition that was dreamt up by the pharmaceutical industry. Adults can and should should monitor that and other aspects of their state of health and do what they can to stay within certain parameters.

I've read what you posted before. I dont remember where. At one time my cholesterol was a total of 147, but that included drinking three to four shots of whiskey every night. When I quit spending money on whiskey my cholesterol went up to 380...I believe what you have posted is fact....and the statins make me feel like poop...I just quit taking Niaspan (a non statin) because I am allergic to it and intend to try one more statin...if I have negative side effects, I'll quit. If I dont and it brings my cholesterol down, I will continue taking it as long as my insurance company pays for most of the bill.
I eat a Mediterranean diet. Most of the protein I consume is salmon, and salt water fish. I do eat poultry, venison, (i.e. elk and deer) and grass fed beef (beef only once in a while and I buy it from ranchers around Poteau). I do like my eggs and 1% milk...I dont eat pork or other scavengers (i.e. fish without scales, shrimp, lobster, crab...(I think that they literally stink/smell bad and so does pork). My diet is very similar to a kosher diet.
I like veggies and fruit but the stuff available in Oklahoma at roadside stands, wal-mart, price cutter and other places available to me is either green, rotten with gnats swarming it, or from some other country that I dont trust. Frozen veggies are horrible.
I am planting two Winesap apple trees, two Loring peach trees and one apricot tree this winter...grapes will come next year...I'd like to have an orange tree but I have not looked into whether it will grow in Poteau OK. My back yard is red Oklahoma clay and boulders, not rocks...I did put enough top soil down to have it soded with burmuda grass. If I want a garden (and I'd love to have one) it will be a major undertaking requring a backhoe to remove the boulders and have some top soil hauled in. I may do that later...things are about to get really bad in this country and we may be growing our own veggies, chickens, rabits and other animals that can be caged and grown in the back yard...Just like the depression of 1929.
My point is that overall, I have a very good diet. Better than most, yet my cholesteral is wacked.
Exercise...well there is where I am lacking. I have been on call for my parents since 2003. My Father died in August of 2010 leaving only my Mother to care for...she is a much bigger job than my Father ever was. In addtion to caring for them, stress brought on my own health problems...several surgeries...etc...If I left the house to do something for myself, even to shop for groceries, I usually (8 times out of ten) got a call from one of my parents concerning some sort of emergency....I have recently begun to walk...but I am not yet walking enough to receive any real benefit from it. Once I regain my ability to breath...i.e. not get out of breath so quickly...I will pick up the pace and all will be right with the world in that area.
If I believe what I have read most about this so called "problem"...I am in the heart attack and stroke range. If I believe what nutritionists and others in that category have written, I have nothing to worry about. Most doctors want me on cholesteral lowering mediations....so who do I believe? Someone with a Medical degree or someone with a Phd in nutrition, naturalpathy, herbology?
I would like to believe the Phd and forget the statins. I my have to forget them anyway if I cant tolerate the negative effects or if I am allergic to all of them. I am allergic to those that I have tried thus far.

I too had problems with statins and my liver, been on Zetia for 5 years now, cholesterol coming down and no side effects.
It would be nice to NOT need meds, and I do use as many natural type supplements as I can, but I do take 2 meds. I eat right and get plenty of exercise, however it does not keep everything healthy, especially as we get older?
Our health care system is terrible this is true, which is why we need to be knowledgeable and understand our meds and such.

We rely alot/mostly on western style medicine...i.e. we treat the symptom and wait until its broken to fix the problem. It would be nice to have MD's in the USA trained in both Western and Eastern styles of medicine and treatment....Right now we have a lot of quacks out there calling what they do logical alternative to western style of medicine...If the universitys got involved and began teaching eastern style and if the government got involved and required a Medical Degree to be able to treat people with herbs, vitimins, etc....We might be better off.

I can tell just by looking at you that you don't live sensibly, because if you did, you wouldn't be visibly over-weight and requiring treatments arising from a sedentary lifestyle. Yes, it does make sense to understand what you're doing to yourself, so I did my own checking on Zetia and found this:
Side Effects include allergic reactions (which may require treatment right away) including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing, rash, and hives, raised red rash, sometimes with target-shaped lesions, joint pain, muscle aches, alterations in some laboratory blood tests, liver problems, stomach pain, inflammation of the pancreas, nausea, dizziness, tingling sensation, depression, gallstones, inflammation of the gallbladder, gastro-intestinal disturbances; headache, fatigue; myalgia; rarely arthralgia, hypersensitivity reactions (including angioedema, and anaphylaxis), hepatitis; very rarely pancreatitis, cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, thrombocytopenia, raised creatine kinase, myopathy, and rhabdomyolysis.
You can boast whatever you want in these forums lady, but you must LIVE by common wisdom in order to benefit from it, because it seems there's a lot you DON'T know, including the fact that Zetia is at the center of a current lawsuit for ineffectiveness and being too dangerous for human consumption. However, with any luck, maybe you'll end up one of the compensated victims if this poison doesn't kill you first?

I must have stroke a nerver with this post...
Pathetic... grown a** men gathered around gay bashing a young man like silly teenage boys. You guys should really be ashamed of yourselves. Is this where the experiences of your lives have brought you?... to the maturity level of twelve year old boys? This is Oklahoma regional chat. The man asked a question than none of you circle jerkers had to reply to. But I guess the opportunity to stroke your fragile egos by collectively tearing down another person was far too tempting for you.
I guess it wasn't enough for you to heckle that poor kid like immature adolecents, you have to follow around and try to heckle anyone that would defend him as well. The ego of those who thrive off a mob mentality are fragile ones. I actually feel sorry for you and find it interesting you feel the need to bring attention to you not being "bi" or "a f*g" when no one insinuated anything of the sort. Now... I would have my doubts. Have you ever seen American Beauty? You somehow remind me of the father of the boy that lived next door.
And btw - whatever my religion... it has obviously taught me more about love than yours has.
