I had a '83 Gold Wing with a stereo that my dad from Palmdale gave me. Had to use it to get my bike license.

All the thousands of miles he rode that bike touring the USA and he was killed in a crash

in his convertible on his way to breakfast at the Lancaster mall one April morning in '07.

Yeah, mine was an 83; I bought it new and put over 100,000 miles on it. I lived in Encino and my daughters kept b*tching at me to get rid of it because the traffic was so bad and they were afraid I would be killed, so I finally did, but I miss it.

Sorry to hear about your father. I started riding when I was 15 years old when my father gave me an old army 45 hog; what a pain in the a** that was. It was always breaking down but I loved it. I always thought a bike was safer than a car if you rode defensively; I still believe that.

I think I would like the blue one.

I only fell off a street bike once and slipped in heavy fog once, just kind of stepped off, never crashed.

That feature to keep the bike upright when it falls is so cool, why did it take so long?

No laws were violated? What fun was that?

Well, I rode for 35 years and never laid a bike down; came close many times, but never crashed. I was coming home from the beach one night over Topanga Canyon when my front wheel hit a rock (about half the size of a basketball) that I didn’t see; it sent me out of control for a few seconds and made my heart pump, and then about a quarter of a mile further, I came around another curve and hit oil which sent me sideways but I recovered from that. If I had been going faster, I’m sure I would have lost it; the rock slowed me down some. I put Halogen running lights on my bike after that for better visibility in the canyons. I have had many incidents like this but never crashed; just lucky I guess. I love to ride the canyons, but not the way the racers do; I cruise to enjoy the scenery.

As for the tip-over feature on the Victory; it is only for when or if the bike gets accidentally bumped over. In an actual crash, it would roll just like any other bike and I think it would still need roll bars to protect your legs from being crushed. If you noticed, the guy just let it fall, he didn’t push it hard. Roll bars would make that feature worthless. I had long roll bars (front and rear) on my Honda that did the same thing and would also protect the cowl, the luggage, and my legs. My bike did lie down once in a parking lot when the pavement softened (from the heat of the sun) under the kick stand; the bike just rolled over on the roll bars with no damage what-so-ever. I think if I was to buy another bike, I would buy a striped down version because I paid for and threw away a lot of stuff (that came with the bike) in order to replace it with better after-market equipment. The Victory is very stream-lined and pretty; it also has some other nice features, but I still prefer the Gold Wing, especially the new ones.

RITA HAYWORTH "STAYIN' ALIVE"...40's STYLE

Do you remember Rita Hayworth from her movies in the 1940s? Then, in 1977, the movie Saturday Night Fever was released...and the Bee Gees wrote the songs for the movie...including "Stayin' Alive"! Great song!

Here, Rita, Fred Astaire and other great dancers of the '40s are shown with the music of the mid 70s (using modern video technology), and the rhythms and lyrics of Stayin' Alive are just unbelievably correct for both periods of time!!!! Enjoy!!
