New styles... How about just get good at one, then add one. If you want people to just think you know several styles, go the library and read through the martial arts section.

Naa, I doubt it... I started in 1988, the cost of lessons has remained the same since the start.

Only seen one good "style" mentioned so far.
Muay Thai is the strongest standing style there is. Muay Thai boxers fight 200-400 times through out there professional career if your trained right your unstoppable.
As for ground most people say bjj...but I think wrestling is a better a combo.

My experiences have taught me it doesnt take much to crush a throat, gouge and eye, break a finger, crush an instep, twist and rip opr rake flesh. Just keep in mind the destruction of your opponents will or body when you fight, and always train with the intention of killing. Thats what martial arts were created for in the first place.

Closed crane Kung fu! It's a concept style full of fighting transitions! My grand master is a red sash if you dont know is master level in southern Mantis hands, shoulin white crane, hung ga , Choy li fut, thi chi. Shuy gow Which is Chinese wrestling! We have are lineage from the shoulin temple! Now what he did is the opposite of what Bruce did! Instead of jumping from system to system to confuse your opponent. Every style was transformed into one fluid movement! So every movement has a piece of all the styles! I've studied since 1990! I have 9 sifu's and they all bring to the table something different! That I've learned! I am a black sash which is instructor level in this style! It is an on going process! And if anyone knows you never master it all because it changes or evolves! It's not traditional! It's a sponge style! you show me a teq i can closed crane it and make it nastier! It is not a self defense style! It's and aggressive style! The saying goes attack the attacker! And it's for a bigger person or fat guy lol! My master is 6'2" 280 and moves like he is 150 lbs man! It's not a flying wushu! It's all street teq! And if you all don't know Kung fu means the art of killing! That what I currently learn how to kill people! But a true artist will avoid that at all cost! He will also feel bad when it's used! All who knows true arts will know what I'm taking about!

I second this.
Not claiming that you're the type.. but it's a pet peeve of mine when people earn their black belts, then decide that feel like they know everything about the art and quit their training.

Depends on the person and what strong points they have, hints why bruce lee didnt teach people how to fight the way he did, he worked with what they were best at and molded them into a realistic fighting style... A person whos 7 feet tall and 350lbs isnt nva gonna b an elusive fast striker and vice versa

Most styles to learn are personal preference whether you plan to compete, for self-defense, or just cause. First figure out why you want to learn, then move to commit. You won't see REAL results until you make the mental move to commit. Me personally Muay Thai is an exellent choice for all three reasons stated but to become hardcore like the greats you have to be willing to walk though hell to come out a warrior. Unless you'd like to pussifoot around, try it on the street and get embarresed. Wounds heal faster than Pride

Muy tai is not the strongest n no style is the best.. The best style comes from Within U create ur own way as way like Bruce lee says its not about styles or even harming anyone true martial arts is about the innermost expression of oneself to the world.. It is in all we do and the power comes form understanding the chi flow or Yin n Yang and balance it. Learn to heal as well as kill. True power is always from the inside..
I studied wing chun tkd jkd shaolin Dway aka Djitsu which is aikido judo jujitsu Grecoroman n saimbo wrestling combined.. No one that is a student of Dway as ever lost a fight that I know of.. No one.. Once a student of Djitsu u just don't lose.. So muy tai is ok but far from the best

"i do not believe in styles, it's an illusion..." - bruce lee... i think bruce had it right... most disciplines should be taken as a suggestion... not the gospel... practice what u can... figure out what works... discard the rest... to believe to strongly in one discipline is to be blinded by it...

That's all fine and dandy, those are skills any avg person of the street can accomplish in an altercation. If I'm faster, stronger, more agile, better footwork along with a dominat ground game. Good luck trying to pull dirty shit that I can easily counter with my own dirty shit because I can "out everything" you.(I don't mean me as in "myself" just making a point). I thought I was a tough guy because I fought dirty and put a beaten on a few guys. Ever since I started training Muay Thai, bjj and catch wrestling I realized I didn't know shit about fighting. Plus the mental advantage of knowing you're trained, fit and been in a hostile situation countless times give you a big edge.

It's only a matter to what you body can handle and what your body is limited to. You can combine all of them to make the most unique martial art of its time, but if your body can't handle all that's required to make this martial art effective, what's the point in learning it?......gamer

You are incorrect in that you are trying to apply Japanese titles to a Chinese based system. Master SiGong (master) & GongGong (master's master) is familly based & passed to the oldest living member of that family system Tai-Gong (grandmaster).

My comment was at Atreus 79, I tried linking it to his comments, but I don't quite know all of this sites features.
As for Op more importantly then finding a collection of techniques to study, do you understand principles and have you varied the application of your techniques in variety of situations?
