About Me |
If you met me traditionally, what’s the first thing you’d notice about me? I laugh a lot. At everything. The worse the joke, the more delightful I think it is. I try to find the humor or the ridiculousness in every situation. I laugh at myself as much as I laugh at anyone or anything else and, though competitive and ambitious inside, I'm very laid-back on the outside—I will take on any (reasonable, non-life-threatening) challenge or dare, I will debate until the end of time, and I will trash-talk my opponents... as long as we're all having fun and I'm getting as good as I'm dishing out.
I "collect" experiences—I will try anything once. I don't worry about or dwell on things that are past and done; I move on and do whatever I can now with what I have now. If an experience is bad, I handle it, learn from it, and don't repeat it—I don't waste time on regretting it. If it's good, I enjoy it and remember it with a smile… and repeat it when possible.
The adventurous, devil-may-care side of my personality is tempered by my values and practicality. "Whatever you are, be a good one," is one of my favorite quotes and kind of a personal motto—I think living with integrity and humor is the best anyone can do. I think it's important to know who you are and where you stand, and then to stick to that. One of my biggest values is respect, so I am mindful of others' boundaries and feelings, and I try to be clear about my own.
Another value of mine is learning and curiosity. It’s a big world out there, full of people, places, and events that will teach you valuable things if you’re open to the lessons. I love to learn, and I’ve found that I don’t have to be a child to be amazed by a complex plot, the size of an ancient tree, or the mechanical genius of a clock. I’m not shy about expressing my appreciation for simple things, either, and frequently create smiles around me when I give out warm compliments to strangers or take off my shoes to slide across a shiny floor in toe socks (and probably fall down in the process and laugh loudly).
And my passion is nature (that, and always cheering for the underdog). I love the deceptive complexity of the natural world and I try to get in touch with it as often as possible with hiking, camping, or even simple things like listening to birds, watching the sunset, or staring at the stars. We live in an amazing world.
I'm looking for someone who values independence and is interested in a partnership of equals. I would like to have a relationship in which each of us has things to teach to and learn from the other, and in which we can feel comfortable being honest and being ourselves. I value intelligent conversation, enjoying the little things in life, and respect in all my relationships. I am equally happy going out or staying in, playing games and watching movies or playing sports and dancing, or dropping everything for a spontaneous drive north to find snow for a snowball fight. I would like to find someone who also can find enjoyment doing something epic or doing nothing at all. I do think communication is very important--I will be straightforward with you, so I need you to be straightforward with me. Also, I like someone who is physically affectionate--I like to cuddle while watching movies, to have my hair stroked, to high five, things like that. Everything else aside, I like a relationship to be equal--I wouldn't ask anything of you that I wouldn't give or do myself, and I expect the same consideration in return. I give respect and I expect it back.
