About Me |
A little about me:
I suppose I should start off by saying that I am homeless by choice. That is, I don't have a house, apartment or a place to go 'home' to each day. I donated most all my belongings quite a few years ago. Being without a home is not that big a deal to me, yet having connections to the rest of the world is pretty important to keep oneself 'sane'. I tend to spend much of my free time working on my journal/blogs and poems wherever I may be, and eventually sift it into my book.
I've found that people like me are actually pretty common; I suppose I would call myself a permanent traveler. I backpack, walk or hitchhike (well rarely hitchhike) around the U.S (soon in other countries), visiting different places, meeting many people, and often will connect with other 'permanent travelers'.
I grew up here in Tacoma and left when I was about 24. It did take me about two years to hone down this lifestyle though I am very humble and I truly cherish meeting all sorts of people from all walks of life. It gives a person a sense of humility.
I made it back here in Tacoma around the beginning of September. My family still lives in Washington, so I make it a point to come back and visit.
Last summer I decided to see Florida and spent most of the time on the beaches and some other surreal areas. The soft white warm sand is like walking on a cloud. It's definitely a beautiful state and I will eventually go back and spend more time there. I do have to say though that I find what I am doing is a very interesting way to live, and it is what I have enjoyed for years. I think it's unfair for people to assume that "homeless" is equivalent to crazy, scruffy, broke, or lazy.
Obviously though, not every homeless person lives like this. While I do this by choice , there are millions through the world who are homeless because they don't have any other option. The reasons for many are dramatic, and their situation is certainly not as 'rosy-looking' as mine.
New York is where I'm considered venturing next, however I am planning on staying here throughout this winter and perhaps even longer. Normally I would head to the southern states in the winter months as its much warmer and the winter conditions are not as extreme and much more tolerating. But this year I plan on staying for a longer period of time to reconnect with my family and friends as I miss them dearly. As well as make new friends.
That about sums it up for now, If you have any questions or just want to say hi, feel free to do so.
