From many years as a warehouseman & shipping & receiving clerk I have noticed most of them can hardly walk more than a hundred yards from their rigs to offices or cafes, with out lots of pain. Oh I know those boots wre designed for being on horse back but a tractor rig aint no Hoss.

I think a lot of otr drivers think of their rig as their horse. I wish I could remember more about it, but there's a song about a man and his eighteen wheeler and he considers himself a cowboy. If these drivers wore cowboy boots more often and/or fitted them right to begin with they wouldn't hurt. Actually, the are very comfortable.

Fish - I can only tell you from working for a few companies that shipped goods.
Cooper Energy - Trucks would haul oil rig engines, compressors into the oil fields
that were mud holes at best. The higher the boot, the drier the feet. Hon Company -
Trucks would haul furniture to NY, Chicago, etc. have to back down alleys that were full of trash. Needed to protect feet from sharp objects, etc. General Mills - Trucks would have to deliver 10 to 20 tons of livestock feed in 100 pound gunny sacks to farmers. Just imagine walking through cow pastures, hog pens etc to stack the feed in barns. (This one, I experienced first hand, but I carried Two pairs of barn boots or fishing waders in the Truck, and changed from my work shoes when I unloaded.) Just think of where Truckers have to got to load and unload, be it steel mills, rock quarries, logging operations, etc. I would say that delivering to Grocery, Drug Stores would be clean, but I can remember putting my hand in a sack of rotten potatoes. Yech.

As far as the pain, I would venture to guess that the Drivers Backs were more of a problem than the boots. Trucks, in the early years were not lap of luxery. Hard seats, standard shift (8, 12, 16 speed transmissions).

Thanks Pole , very informative responce, I wore wellintons for many of the same reasons . but lower heels, broader toes, & cost a hell of a lot less, even my steel toed ones. But I personaly think the drivers try to impress the ladys, women are often so easy when a cowboy, trucker , biker, type shows up & if he can dance his ticket is punched
