People always want to be where they are not. I've lived in NY State most of my life and would love to move. People who were brought up in the city want to move to the country. People who were brought up in the country want to move to the city. It's "the grass is always greener" syndrome.

I can tell you that New York City is very busy, noisy and doesn't have great air quality. However, you don't need a car, the food is excellent, you meet very interesting people and there is always entertainment. It's expensive to live there, apartments are small and depending on the neighborhood you have to worry about getting robbed or mugged. But if you're street smart and you enjoy a high energy, fast paced city environment then you would enjoy living there. It's really a matter of what you like.

New York is a huge state and it's very diverse. If you like serenity and mountains there are the Catskills and the Adirondacks. If you prefer suburban living Westchester County can be a good place to live. I know this state very well so if you want any more specifics feel free to ask.

For diversity and scenery spanning the entire spectrum imaginable, the State of New York is the best. NYC, the rural mountainous north, the Thousand Islands area, and the beautiful Finger Lakes populated with crystal clear bodies of water and top notch boutique wineries all over. It's a great State .... to visit,

Moving to and taking up residence in NY is something quite different. Income tax rates are high. Property tax rates worse. And then we have what's called "sin tax" ... a pack of cigarettes here is $10.00. And that's for individuals. Running a business in NY is next to impossible to do with all the ridiculously unnecessary government restrictions.

That's so true, the cost of living here is high as hell. These apartments are ridiculous. My rent is decent tho. I pay$515 for my studio .

If you have money then yeah you'll like it out here. If you're a regular joe like most of us then I suggest you simply visit. This place is very expensive. Too expensive actually.

Depends on where you live, I have not had a good experience being out here, but for some others they might dig it out here. Traffic is not good, especially subway trains, but again it depends on your mojo.

Have a decent job and look for the best opportunities. There is low cost housing here. Do your research and apply to everything possible.

Thank you for writing this. At OP's age I wanted to live in NY. My friend, who had worked on elevators in the Twin Towers, told me that I wouldn't be able to handle the rush hour. People just brush passed you and are rude. He was afraid for my little 98 lbs. self. I did go to Virginia Beach and North Carolina. I saw DC from the safety of the Greyhound bus. Went to Chicago, again. I never liked Chicago, the Windy City.

Forget Living in New York , it's not the same anymore to expensive and politicians are robbing people blind living here with high tolls etc. Me lived here all my life time to move to Florida where the weather is beautiful all year round

The best advice i can give you or anybody thinking about moving, or moving back for some, to ny is to wait til after the election for mayor when that piece of shit called bloomberg is outta here. Ever since he's been in office the cost of living has gone up in 1 way or another. Just wait til we see who the new mayor is, which is obviously gonna be de blasio, then give it some thought.

load up your work experience and meet the vast personalities, get your share of tail, and then cash out to somewhere else....

How about moving to Long Island? As for NYC goes, If I was going to do business in the city, I would find something at least 50 to 100 miles radius of the city. AND TRAVEL BY TRAIN/ SUBWAY.
