it is my opinion that there need to be responsible breeders. puppy mills need to stop. if you think that breeding restrictions and mandatory spay laws will keep the millions of dogs which die in shelters from dieing I must say that is not the solution. all spaying and neutering all the dogs is doing is making the gene pool smaller. responsible pet owners don't have unwanted litters. the shelters will always be full as long as people consider pets throw away items. shelters are not full of puppies or strays most dogs are adults and have been rekenguished. just my few cents

I love puppies but my big dog is too aggressive because I never had him fixed. I have way too many kittens because of not fixing them too. It is very important to have all animals fixed.

I won't "fix" my dog just for my convenience, although I appreciate the majority of dogs probly should be "fixed", especially if they've been abandoned. But "fixing" the irresponsible owners is a more agreeable option.
I mean, really, you buy a dog with balls, then you get his balls cut off cos you can't handle his behaviour?
Did you ask him?
Who gave you that right?
Having a dog as a companion is a privilege, not a right.
I'm saddened every day by things I read about the way dogs are treated.

Then maybe you should get him fixed because dogs that do not breed are more prone to cancer and that is difficult to watch and the outcome is not always good. Are you new at owning pets that you don't know this? It is very important to keep a dog healthy.
And if I sound a little irritated it is because I have seen too many dogs with cancer that could have been prevented.
I just went through six months of expensive chemo to keep my boy alive and it is hard to watch. Mine had nothing to do with this matter but I am just saying if there is a way to prevent cancer in a dog, please do it.

I do agree that if you do not plan to breed your purebred dog it is best to have them fixed for health and possible behavioral problems that can arise. sexual release is no longer necessary if the sexual organs are gone. but tell me those who responded where will we get our next generations of dogs? do you think pet over population is the reason so many die in shelters? are you aware that dog smuggling is on the rise here in America? how could that be possible if there were an overpopulation? as far as that goes how could puppy mills stay in business if there were an overpopulation? could somebody answer those questions?

and the sadtruth is animals are big money makers. there is indeed shortages of some desired breeds in some parts of the country. and too many of other breeds. do you think the shelters and rescues really want a solution? who makes money Fromm the spay neuter programs? if you work for rescues next time you walk thru the shelter note how many are homeless because they barked too much or went poo on the floor or ate the shoe. these dogs had homes. they are homeless due to owner irresponsibility. dogs ate not throw away items. you keep your dog till it dies or you regime it correctly. don't dump it at the shelter and get another in a few months. sorry long winded.

Just because a dog is "Pure bred"DOES NOT mean the animal is breeding material.Yes,puppies are adorible, but there is no shortage of them and I love them enough to prevent them.Give the ones already here a chance. My purebred male german shepherd suffers incredibly from heriditary issues.

we have plenty of puppies being made- dont need any trashy mutts that will inevitably end up abandoned and in another shelter.....
also i love the irony of saying backyard breeders need to stop. thats what THIS is.

I have had 2 male dogs die of cancer. Both were "fixed", not by me.
I've always had dogs, the healthier dogs were not "fixed", & my healthiest dog was a Border Collie that never saw a vet once in her life.

And I'd appreciate not being alluded to as an irresponsible dog owner. I love my dog more than people, I made myself homeless trying to save a previous dog from cancer (yes, he HAD been fixed), he was refused treatment because I couldn't put my hands on adequate funds at that time.

Your dogs did not get cancer because they were fixed. It was probably a different type of cancer. I am in that almost homeless position right now because of expensive chemo but I would do it again if I had to.
You think what you want but intact males are prone to testicular cancer.

to know when to make the correct decision to neuter or spay and to know if you are going to breed or not
