There's a cat which was abandoned by a former neighbor. We live in a small remote community near a lake. We thought another neighbor took him in, but a couple months later he showed up asking for food. We have an indoor cat already. We ultimately named him Oliver, lovingly after Oliver Twist. After feeding him a couple nights he came by one morning as if to say, "please sir, I want some more," hence the name.
Anyway, the last few days he has had no meow. It was hoarse at first, but now no sound comes out. He seems otherwise quite healthy. We haven't brought him inside because we can't afford to get him checked out at the vet, so we don't want to bring him around our other cat until we can. Since he lost his voice, we have kept the window near "his" porch closed so our other cat doesn't get close, and we scrub ou hands and arms with hot soapy water after petting him.
We didn't want another cat because money is already beyond tight, but he needs food and love, and that's what we can give for now. Any ideas what might be wrong with his voice?

This cat you speak of does it show
signs of sneezing-snotty nose or
runny eyes? This is just my opinion
sounds like a viral upper respiratory
infection or disease.Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. No other symptoms, just the loss of voice. No sneezing or mucous. Still energetic and insistently loving as always.

Thanks to both of you. Yes, long before he got sick we already agreed the two cats won't meet until we
can first get him to a vet. We need a blessing.

Haven't seen Oliver in a few days. I hope a neighbor took him in. We have coyotes here, but he's avoided them for months. We miss him and pray he's alright somewhere. At least the last time I saw him I gave him a good half hour of pets, so he knows he's loved.

Oliver came back for food tonight! Still no meow, but otherwise healthy. I think a neighbor took him in for a couple days when it was colder. We'll consider him a community cat.
Sorry you couldn't message me. Somehow some people can and others can't, and it doesn't seem to ever follow the same rules. Men and women of all ages message me, but dh randomly doesn't let some through.
