Burlington has it's good and bad points.
There is a big housing shortage because of the five colleges so close together. I live in the area that Channel 3 news affectionately called "college ghetto". The students are seasonal and do not respect the area like long term residents do. There is a lot of trash, graffiti, vandalism, noise and theft.
The plus side is great public transportation, access to many services and a beautiful waterfront to retreat to. When I need to get away from the city I can take the bus and end up in an area filled with a variety of wildlife such as coyote, moose, deer, fox etc.
I do love the possum that have crept up in my area. I do feel bad that they have such difficulty in the northern climates. I feed them cat food and fruit during the winter months.

I have been to Montreal a few times. It's incredible! It makes Burlington look so small.
The first time I saw Montreal coming into view, I thought of the old show, Dallas. I have never seen tall buildings like that before, I was awestruck. What I thought was strange was not seeing a lot of people outside.
I don't travel much but when I do, I enjoy it.

We are also fortunate that the mountains keep most of the bad storms at bay. We don't have even half the bad weather the Midwest and coastal areas have.
The ice storm? I put on my cleats and went for a walk. It was beautiful the way everything sparkled. It did, however, cause a lot of damage.

The ice storm wasn't too bad in Burlington. Other areas had it much worse. My power flickered a bit but I never lost it. We don't have a lot of power failures, probably because I am not far from a large hospital.

Connecticut had its first snowfall on Friday, Nov.14th. Most areas only had an inch of snow but some spots had from 2 to 3 inches.
When did Vermont get its first snowfall? Is there snow on the ground there now?

More snow is coming to parts of Connecticut on Monday. I imagine that Vermont will end up getting snow as well on Monday...probably more snow than Connecticut.

Johnnyfee harrases, stalks, bullies, and threatens me all the time here in the DH forums. I report him to CS, but CS never does anything to him.
Instead, I'm the one who gets deleted 8 times in 4 weeks. And Johnnyfee continues to exist and post in the DH forums with no consequences for his negative actions!
It's so unfair!

I was in the Rutland area this past Friday and Saturday (Nov. 21st/22nd). Talk about cold! 27 degrees was the HIGH that day in Rutland! It was snow flurrying when I was driving up Route 103 to get from I-91 exit in Rockingham to Route 7 in Rutland area. I noticed bits of snow on the ground in those different towns like Chester, Ludlow, and in the Green Mountains. That must have been from snow earlier in that week. Also, once in Rutland, I could see that it was snow flurrying in the Taconic Mountains to the west. I was in a cemetery (there for a funeral), and it was flurrying a little bit there in Rutland too.
Well, it looks like both Vermont and Connecticut will be having a white Thanksgiving due to all the snow coming in on Wednesday!
To all the Vermonters, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

How much snow have you all been getting in Vermont this winter?
Here in Connecticut, it's been very cold, and it started getting very snowy in late January, and has been continuing since.

We have about 5-6" in my area but further south and on the mountains has a lot more snow.
It was a bit rough walking this Sunday. It seems the snowplows were slow on getting the streets and sidewalks done.
I hope to go see the ice sculptures on Church Street. The carved them on Sunday.

Hi Tom!
Yes, Vermont is known for its maple syrup. We fought hard for the label and title. If it says pure Vermont maple syrup it has to come only from Vermont not from another state or Canada. The label also cannot say 100% Vermont Maple syrup if it is diluted with corn syrup.
My Mom will get a one ounce bottle of maple syrup and drink it, lol. I am hooked on it, too.
