I posted here because I know my fellow country folks are knowledgeable, creative, self-sufficient people who are used to doing things themselves. Here is my question:

I do not know the proper terminology, but I was wondering if anyone out there would know how a person (obviously without industrial machine equipment) could create a 90 degree double bend flange on the end of a 18 inch diameter cylinder formed from sheet copper, in order to capture and make watertight a gasketed flat circular/disc shaped end piece made of that same sheet copper? Visualize a "J" where the curved part of the "J" is bent/rotated to the right 90 degrees. What comes to mind is some type of bead/flange roller but I have only seen those things used for flat sheet metal, not cylindrical. I just do not get how a person puts a 90 degree bend in a cylindrical piece of some type of sheet metal, let alone a double bend, without tearing the material on the 90 degree "out" bend or wrinkling the material on the 180 degree "in" bend. Thanks much for any help or guidance.

You should try asking the guys on the website tractorbynet.com. Go to their forums and scroll down to the Build it yourself section. Lots of talent there, lot of people with good knowledge and engineering skills.
