So I have a Sony Vaio 64bit Laptop running windows 7. It is running very very slow lately and I can not afford to purchase any new software to remove the issues I am having. Can anyone possible instruct me how I can get my laptop running up like new again? I am a full time college student and I rely on my laptop a lot for classes. I spoke with someone before and he explained it's possible my hard drive is about to go out on me because from time to time my laptop does this clicking sound then it completely freezes up. Any sort if assistance would be very much so appreciated. Please message me if you have any insight on what I may do.

Clean all unnecessary files off your harddrive.
Clear your history, cookies and cache.
De-frag.
Go back to a factory restore if you have to.
Download an 'optimiser' program.
Good luck.

Clicking harddrive does mean its starting to fail. Start backing up files as it normally fails about a month at most after the clickin.

I have attempted to press F8 and nothing happens. This clicking sound has been going on for a few months now.

Well sadly, you're gonna need to back your files up like someone said, because it's only a matter of time that it'll stop working
Try wiping your hard drive clean and re-installing your OS and other files back once it works normally again

Look at your memory level-go to computer-from the start up page--if it is looking full then go through all your troubleshooters all the ones that you have--some will clean up non needed reports etc..getting close to a full memory use will slow computer.--any back up storage needs to be on a plug in cruzer...--not a disc etc..disc are not holding info.properly.
Make sure your settings are set as automatic for diagnostics--go through the defaults--what needs to be automatic compared to manual--many things do not need to start when you turn computer on-many things can get set to start when turned on--needs to be manual settings--you choose it,it does not choose you..etc causes a slower start and slower turn off also..
if memory is full you can move things to a plug in cruzer.Make sure you moving items and not copy to...

clicking sound-??-could be in the sound system do a troubleshoot of audio--and of your outer disk drive.See if you have forgotten to take a disc out.No need to leave disc in when not using it.
