Does anyone do either of these? Old school exercises. But they give you the best bang for your buck in terms of full body workout, cardiovascular training, and simple set up. All you need is a flat piece of ground and a $10 jump rope.

2x a week I'll combine the two:

- 1000 jump rope jumps broken down into 10 sets of 100. 60 secs rest between sets. Takes 15 mins. After I finish I rest for 5 minutes to let my HR come down a bit and regulate my breathing.

- Then 50 burpees with full push up broken down into five sets of 10. 90 secs rest between sets. Takes ten minutes.

Only 30 minutes but the intensity of it makes it feel like two hours.

Not really. On the weekends when I work retail I do body weight dips and push-ups off of a bench in our back room. I do 10 of each every 20-30 minutes. I work anywhere from 5-8 hours so I get quite a few in.

My regular workouts are more specified training for running and cycling. Or yoga for flexibility and balance

I do both, though jumping rope is more a part of my routine. Burpees are killer at the end of a workout. I did 20 burpees at the end of a Spartan race, it felt like my heart was gonna give out

I don't do burpees every day because I'd get bored with them.

I also like pushing my Prowler sled, using battle ropes, running stairs, doing sprints, etc.. In addition to strength training. I've never been the "endurance" type though. Always preferred sprinting and more anaerobic stuff.

I'll never be able to run a marathon but I'm cool with that.

see and i'm the opposite of you.

for me to sprint or do burpees or those short burst things, my heart feels like it's going to explode, and my joints just don't seem to agree. (too many knee and ankle injuries to being young and dumb and living life)

Ironically, long distance running is going to put way more wear and tear on your joints in the long run.

Compound exercises like squats, lunges, deadlifts, etc will not only get you stronger but prevent injury. Also anaerobic high intensity exercises train your HR to recover faster. With steady state aerobic exercise your HR stays at the same pace and is never forced to train in different intensity zones.

Now in the end it is up to individual. But if there was a way to make my body prevent injury, and get better physical results in far less time I will take that option.

Whatever works for you, works.

That's just fine. You've hounded me before.

Not all distance runners ONLY run long slow paces. There are different aspects to training. But you've never read anything I've said before. Why would I expect you to now. Just keep on attacking me.

For some of us, we are already healthy and in shape and are maintaining that. I'm not trying to cram a lot of results into less time. I'm simply doing what agrees with my body and makes me happy

Actually I've read a variety of your posts. Also I am not attacking or hounding you. Just trying to give you some insight. You mention having a lot of joint pain and issues, yet you do an activity that is known for causing chronic joint pain and stress.

Also since you mention running for 2-3 hrs straight on a treadmill in another thread, it is only natural to assume you run at a longer, slower pace.

Never have I said chronic joint pain and stress.

I broke an ankle and tore my MCL and sprained my ACL in one knee in high school. Certain things like burpees and certain lifts stress it. Running has never caused pain.

You may have read but you only retain what contributes to your degrading my lifestyle choice. While one day a week I do run long and slow (that's where you read about the 2-3 hours on a treadmill), I never said I do that EVERY day. There are hill work days, interval days, yoga days, crossfit-style low weight/high rep days, moderate pace shorter distance days.

Based on this it seems like you have joint issues. Also you say that you feel like your heart is going to explode doing high intensity exercise. So it wouldn't seem like you do Crossfit or intervals.

So all I have to go on is what you post. As I said I never meant to attack, hound, or degrade what you are doing. Was simply trying to give insight and a few alternative ideas for variety and efficiency. But if you like what you're doing, then more power to you. One thing I hate about online and written interaction is that people often take things the wrong way. This is why I do the majority of my non in person communication via phone.

Not ALL interval training has to be at 100%. And crossfit-STYLE is what I said. High rep/lower weight lifting. I can go for maxes and I can't do certain lifts because of certain injuries I've had. I'm tired of re-explaining myself to someone who lacks comprehension skills.

From time to time, can never go wrong with the classics. That being said, I have to give them their own separate day as to not minimize their effect (powerful I might add) it may have on my future sets within the day. I need to start implementing it more than I do truthfully, almost as great as doing deadlifts......gamer

yes I do both in Muay Thai class...jumping rope is fun until about the 2 min mark when it starts becoming painful, and burpees and star jumps just always suck lol.

A workout I am determined to master right now is 100 full push-up burpees for time.

Physically - I'm a big guy @ 240lbs. So it's really challenging to not only do that many push-ups but also moving my body down and jump up that many times. Heart and lungs are always beat to shit..LOL

Mentally - For me this is even worse than the physical. It's really hard mentally to stick with a consistent 60 second rest after every ten burpees. This puts me on a 15 min pace for the 100. I still haven't gotten there yet. Best time so far is 18:40 because I always need longer rests for 70-100. My ultimate goal would be to do 100 in 10 minutes but I still have a long ways to go.

Yeah they make for a good workout in a pinch. You should try to keep adding on sets until you're doing 10 sets of 10.

Kettlebell swings are also intense. I swing it straight up towards the ceiling. Probably raises the heart rate as much as the treadmill. And grab two dumbbells shoulder-height, squat down with them, and quickly press them above your head after returning to a standing position. Both these exercises are good for the core.

Did 200 burpees today.

- 100 burpee workout with sets of ten with brief walking around rest between sets. Then through out the day would do random high rep sets. A few times did 20 straight, and then four other times did sets of 15.

My arms and chest are gonna be feeling the 200 push-ups tmrw..LOL

Haha!! These days it's water jugs. Drinking a gallon to a gallon and a half of water per day.

You know how much I love milk. But, now I'm finally down to 1-2 glasses per day. Even though milk is good for you, the calories add up.

When I do need milk, I'm all about the unsweetened vanilla almond breeze. Trying to drink more water and considering other options at the gym on the days they cut my classes. Should go in early and work on choreo but I'll get to that soon enough. Just trying to get back into a full schedule of workouts again after being out of pocket for a month...
