Would you rather adopt a pet or buy one from a private owner or pet shop. I personally would prefer to adopt a pet but not having enough information on background is problematic.

I just dont want to get atatched to another animal only to lose it due to health problems or inability to adjust to a domestic situations. I am on disability and cant afford the cost of a sick pet.

Honestly, if you can't afford a sick pet you shouldn't get one at all. They need regular vet visits whether they are sick or not and no matter where you get a pet they can always get sick.

Adopt a Greyhound, "Greyhound Rescue Society" for a small donation & they have been checked by a vet & signed off with all the shots. You could even barrow one or foster one too.

I prefer to adopt from a reputable rescue. At least i know that my future dog(s) have been vetted, spayed/neutered, are up to date on shots, and are socially ready to go home to the right family.

Both of my dogs were both "drop offs" meaning their owners left them on the back roads to fend for themselves. They're both very happy to be living here on the farm with me & I couldn't ask for better pets.

Things happen..and you can't expect a "one time fee" for a pet. It can get sick, needs shots yearly etc. Just like a kid. So if you can't afford a pet, then shouldn't get one. I personally have 2 horses, 3 dogs ((all rescues)) and 9 cats. All are well taken care of as am I. And thats on a $300 a week budget. All my bills are up to date as well.

Buy from Owner or a breeder... I would never adopt for the simple fact of not knowing anything about the animal. Why was it givin up? Was it born on the streets as a stray? Was it abused? Was it inbred? When adopting you get no history on the animal and that's something i care about before bringing a new animal in my home....jmho

I would never buy from a breeder or a pet store. I'm sure there are good ones but you never know if you are buying from a puppy mill, even if they let you come and look. They are good at hiding where they keep them. I have seen the horrors of it and what they do to the parent animals. Google it and it will make you sick. As someone who volunteers at a no-kill shelter you should always adopt. There is no need to breed when there are plenty of animals that need homes.

When I mentioned cost of an ill pet I certainly did not mean the normal cost of upkeep and unexpected visits to the vet. My Mom had a cat that was diagnosed with feline blood disorder and she had to have the pet put down. From what I understood insurance was costly and selective in coverage even if purchased.

I grew up in a dog show household. My mom bred Shetland Sheepdogs. Had both Obedience and Confirmation dogs. I would buy a purebred from someone like her. Standards unlike any other breeder/exhibitor. Puppies weren't made for income.
Now at the present time I have a 3 month old Border Jack (Border Collie/Jack Russell) that I adopted at the local shelter in April. Wouldn't trade him for the world. Though, I will be glad when the puppy teeth are gone.

Any dog can get sick it doesn't matter where you get it from. I adopted two dogs and they were both great dogs. I would never recommend getting one from a pet store

Again, I do not believe anyone should own a pet. They are free spirits and no one can own a free spirit, just saying. Anyway I would adopt a pet as that would save a life.

Never from a pet store, they often get their dogs from puppy mills.
I got my Border Collie at 6 months old from a Border collie rescue, shots, microchipped, neutered & personality tested. What we do know from the rescue is he came from a working Border collie ranch, registered & good bloodlines. The ranch took him to the pound because he didn't sell by the time he was 3 months old...sheesh. The pound called the Border collie rescue & the rest is history. Now, he's in a stable, loving, forever home with me, out in the country with plenty to keep him occupied.
Also, got a cat from a rescue...no health issues, extremely affectionate, shots, spayed, no health issues etc...half persian & had the most outgoing personality. Best cat I ever had. Can't say the same for the one I have now tho...very moody, aloof & pretty weird at times, she didn't come from a rescue tho. I would never take her to a shelter, I know she would not be adopted out, she doesn't take to strangers at all. So she'll stay with me

I have used all ways of getting pets. I have had strays, I have adopted and I have bought from owners and petshops. No matter what type of pet you get you are going to have to be able to take care of them and take them to the vet. all animals get sick even ones that are well taken care of. They get colds and viruses just like we do. a pet is not just a pet it becomes part of your family. I call my animals my kids or my babies.
