Misophonia has been gaining a lot of attention recently as a very destructive disorder. Many people have it and dont even realize it. Misophonia is a disorder where certain sounds like lip smacking spoons forks or knives scraping other objects and many other triggers set off a chemical reaction in the brain usually causing extreme anxiety or rage. It is also well known to end relationships as there is no known cure and as you age, it gets worse. Many often start developing new triggers that set them off.

some cases have become so bad people suffering the disorder have to eat alone and have ended long relationships. a housewife had to move her family out of the home so she could eat because it became so bad. If you are suffering from this disorder the best help you can get is buy wax earplugs to keep with you when you and your spouse or family eat. Music also tends to help to. If you have had success with other ways of dealing with it post it up as you may save someones relationship

Yeah I have that. I hate loud screeching noises. Loud noise is annoying but it doesn't have to cripple your life until you collapse into a fit of agonizing despair. These people should just use plastic sporks and put Q tips in their ears. I also have restless leg syndrome and masturbatitis.

haha the last one isnt as funny as sleep masturbation but still good and yea i know your pain but it doesnt help i have wanted to hurt my dogs over lip smacking it gets so bad some days i just make them leave the room but some people cant control that anger and will wind up hurting something. Its not just from eating though pen clicking tapping pant legs rubbing together etc.. are also on the list its really not their fault it sends a signal to the brain to amplify the sound and you feel extreme anxiety or anger i wanted to throat punch my mother for scraping the melted bit of ice cream in her bowl with a spoon many times. That is a problem

It's not related at all to autism but alot of people with autism has sensory issues.

But most definitely can be a sensory integration issue. Some sounds with a person that has sensory issues can hear sounds 100 times fold then what a average hearing person hears. This makes it impossible for them to stand certain noises or pitches. Sometimes drowning out the noise with certain types of headphones helps or something that is calming to that person.

its a mental disorder many disorders have similar symptoms which is why we have doctors in the first place to help identify each one. They are not crazy they literally have no control over it. And and roughly 1 in 4 have it. As far as dealing with them usually blocking the sound or taking attention off of it with other noise can help. But as of now there is no other way to cure it and it only gets worse as you get older. You could be a misophone or your partner right now could be and you may not even know it because they are fighting the urge to throat punch you lol.

Simple solution.

discover this before you get too involved with a person.

if its that much of a problem.

then either have them not do it or move on.

Actually it's a neurological disorder not a mental disorder. Which is a sensitivity to sounds and can make you feel irritated to be put lightly. Look up sensory issues and it will give you a better view on how to handle this disorder. I work with many adults and children that suffer from this and other issues.

I don't know about this study and in these studies, about every ten years, "they" change their minds on a bit that surrounds these findings...and etc.

So they don't carry much weight with me, unless I see enough in life to back them up.

the only noise that really bugs me is the scuffling of shoes on a surface like a school hallways, and certain sounds like that effects different people, because of our individual hearing.

just as certain musicians and writers of music can hear the slightest sounds differences, others can't hear.

but it never drove me to a rage, just made me cover my ears and cringe.

Personally I think you can take this and many other things like them and associate that with the general stress most people are in, in this current society and etc we have these days.

and that more than you think are being stressed and twisted beyond the human capability and sanity.

the problem is the society, and this is proven by all the shootings in the last couple of years.

when society goes out of control, then those out of control, go over the edge.

Take kids for example...we've all experienced them getting out of control... .but then after true disciplinary actions....its funny how they come around back again

why? because the world around them came back into focus, and in reality, they like things being in their place and making sense and etc.

well, when things get as bad as they are now...this can effect anyone of any age.

The ones already on edge...simply go over the edge.

Pitiful excuses, I know. I can't stand it either. People these days want to pretend that every little issue in life is due to some kind of tragic illness (or something else) that they *GASP!* couldn't possibly do anything about. Poor babies..

Whatever happened to taking responsibility for yourself and MAKING it better?

Though I agree there are titles for dumb things that have little affect on someones daily life. But in this case it can ruin lives. We are not talking about someone doing something that just bugs you that you can just ignore. Everyone in the world has that. We are talking about an issue where trigger sounds force the brain to express extreme emotions such as anxiety or anger to the point it is a problem. They cant ignore it they just have to leave. The sounds are so loud to them they cant focus on anything else. In example a person popping their gum constantly for 30 minutes strait would get on anyones nerves. But just one time is enough to drive people with the condition to extreme anxiety or violent outbursts if that is one of their triggers. Its not a new condition its just gaining more attention as they are learning more about it. It causes antisocial behavior and depression. It ruins relationships and families as it can progress as you age to new trigger sounds that previously had not bothered them before.

If a woman has it she's best avoided. I don't need the grief at my age.
