was raised on a farm that had many chickens, a good way to keep the snakes from the eggs is to put golf balls in a low nest, the snake will think they're eggs and swallow them, crawl away and die.

I use to raise chickens and miss fresh eggs. A good all around kind of chicken that is meaty enough to eat and lays plenty of eggs is Rhode Island Reds.
