when prince Charles and princess anne as 20-somethings visited the white house during the early 70's, their gracious and quite traditional hostess, first lady pat Nixon, attempted to please their young musical tastes with "their" kind of dinner music----especially if from UK artists.
(yah, a bit of sucky-uppy there, a.k.a. "international diplomacy." )
upon discreet inquiries of the royals' staff, she heard that the young brits loved the canuck band the guess who. as "American woman" was a major hit around that time, she put that on the play list.
mrs Nixon was all enthused, reportedly thinking it was a paean to the females of the united states!
when her people told her it not only dissed the metaphoric "woman"---America--- but had an anti-war line in it, she quickly and ICILY ordered it absolutely NOT be included on the dinner music repertoire.

Thanks, Naprinciple, I have been out pickin berries again, the berries are coming faster now, ripening right fine!!
