Hello! I'm new to the group and since I am not a veteran, I would like to ask if it is alright if I become a member? I am a widow twice to two VN Navy vets, one was on Mine Sweepers and the other on PBRs attached to the USS Benewah. One died in an accident on our farm and the other died from a rare form of Lukemia, which of course the VA did not recognize although it is known to have been caused by pesticides it has not yet been linked. I hope I will be welcomed into the group because Veterans are my type of people. Thank you

WE have a guy in our VFW who was in the 9th Infantry, 2nd Brigade (Mobile Riverine Force). He often talks about the Benewah, it was the barracks ship that supplied the troops, they also a LST that was a floating platform for resupply and had some barges and of course the Navy would tie up there when they weren't on patrol or carrying troops into the canals in the Delta. Welcome!

Yes whiskey over the years I heard a lot about the USS Benewah, before going to PBR's my late husband was a fuel and oil king when th he brought the Benewah over the Formosa straight during a typhoons, that must have been a harrowing trip. Can't imagine that cumbersome barracks ship through a typhoons. Perhaps your friend knows him. His name was David Chambers, and he was nicknamed "animal" by his shipmates. Thanks for the welcome!

My friend was army, not Navy. The Mobile Riverine Force was a combination of both branches.
