In Bible School when I was a child, I always remember the smell of sharpie markers - that acidic tang that burned my nose while we drew long black lines in the hymnals and the bibles.
The Southern Baptist Evangelical view of the Catholic Church is that they are a bunch of IDOL worshipers and lunatics.
The sharpies were used throughout my youth every time our poor Baptist church received donations of gently used hymnals and bibles from the Catholic Diocese. All children were given a sharpie and told to cross off, black out, and redact the abbreviation "St." and teh word "Saint" in every instance we found it.
It became a fun game of "word search" looking for an undiscovered reference to those evil Catholic human beings proclaimed as Saints by the Pope.
---------------------
That was the mindset I rebelled from when I finally realized the complete and utter BS I was being brainwashed with. The hypocrisy of one Jesuit-based faith fighting against another Jesuit-based faith because the rules of the church were different.
What I described is one founding principal of what it means to be Protestant.
IMHO all of my family members who attend worship services (REVIVALS every month) are completely delusional.
But what can you do to convince adults and teens who have been brought up from infancy with the fantasy of a being hanging out in the clouds - no the sky - no on the moon - no among the stars and galaxies.... Watching everything every human being does and listening to them whisper, scream, shout, and curse him every minute of every 24 hours of the day....
---------------------
My upbringing makes me reticent and skeptical when I find out - having moved from western Illinois to the Chicago suburbs - that most of the people around me happen to be... CATHOLIC... YIKES!
Those ancient memories I thought I had eliminated rise to the surface sometimes and I find myself deriding and saying bad things about religion.
Well, fukit. I just wanted to vent so here ya go.
What do you think of how my childhood church took care of the inadvertent "Catholic" parts of the donated bibles and hymnals?

Let's face it all religions are in competition with all other religions, they all have a driving need to be top dog.
Every religion has a self propagation law/rule to aid in dragging people into the church ( conform and believe as we do or burn in hell ).
This is why wars start in many cases, each religious group thinks they and they alone are superior to all outsiders therefore they are duty bound to conquer and convert others to their way of thinking or kill them in the attempt.
That is the nature of religions.
