when i was lil my mom would have me help her ever christmas eve make christmas cookies from that i learned to bake it became something we did every year

Growing up in the south, we made paper snowflakes for decorations!
I experienced real snow when I was in the military, and they thought
my excitement was so funny.

lol last year we got like 3ft snow we have already had bout 7 or 8 inches this yr i made the paper sbowflakes for my windows this yr for decoration

When I was growing up, the house I most remember was our home outside of NYC. It was dark green with a red front door. Our living room furniture was dark green for one chair and red for the sofa. The other chair was tapestry. I never thought it to be anything unusual until my mom mentioned, a few years ago, that it was because my dad really loved Christmas.
One year, my dad had gotten a really good job and we got everything on our lists that year and then some.
I always remember my mom spending the day cooking, opening presents around the tree... I miss that. Now it's just me and the babies. I go to a friend's for the holidays. God bless her for including me.

I helped my Nanna to wrap packages sent to family living behind the 'iron curtain'.
Somehow my little hands strengthened hers as she tried not to cry.

We would make construction paper chains and hang them up as well as popcorn and cranberry chains for decorations.

When I was 6, I was sick with a fever of 104, so mom let us each open a present on Christmas Eve to ease some of the excitement and perhaps bring my fever down. I got a Shirley Temple doll that I have to this day.

I worked in a department store one summer, back in 1974. Well, one of the things I bought was an embroidery sampler that measured 16" X 20" and was stamped in blue, so you had to count stitches. I started it but put it aside for a long time. One year, in the fall, I decided to finish the sampler - I worked for many hours to finish it and frame it. The look on her face, when she opened it was well worth the effort and love I put into it.

It said "To Love and Be Loved is the Greatest Joy on Earth". When I couldn't get it, after she died, I bought another kit of the same one and have been working on it, slowly but surely (not much lately but I will).
