So for the longest time I've been wanting to get back in the gym and get in shape. I decided to go look on Bodybuilding.com for some workout information and what do I see? They are holding a Transformation challenge from Jan. 12th through April 5th and money as the grand prize. What more motivation could I ask for?!?!?! So I signed up for the gym on the 2nd of this month and my sister in law is a licensed dietitian. She's given me a meal plan to follow and I've also scheduled a personal trainer to come in and work with me and train me how to properly work out and well train me. I've spoken with him and he knows my goals and what I want to accomplish.

After having a fitness assessment today I found out how badly out of shape I was today. I didn't think it was that bad till I heard that I was 34% body fat and the risk that I could have of being that high. I'm 5'9 and 227 lbs. After speaking with the fitness instructor I realize now what needs to be done to get me back into a healthy weight. He showed me a few HIIT Cardio work outs to do that actually work more than 1 or 2 muscles. Showed me how to do the battle ropes and squats with the swinging dumb bell.

I'm planning on going to work out 6 days a week for this Transformation Challenge and rest on Sundays. The fitness instructor was very glad that I came in and wanted to make this change. He said he would even come check on me and see how I'm doing to push me even further for the challenge to get me even more motivated. I guess the whole reason I'm posting this here is to receive encouragement and people to keep me accountable for going each day.

Goals: 55 lbs of body fat to be lost and 7 lbs of muscle to be gained over the next 12 weeks. Ripped to where abs and muscles are showing. Being able to feel good about myself knowing I made a change to make me healthier and stronger.

Trying to lose almost 5 lbs of weight per week for 12 weeks isn't very realistic. You might be able to do it for the first few weeks because a lot of weight loss is possible during the start of a weight loss program, but the body then slows down calorie burning to adapt to the lower calories(as a survival mechanism most likely) and weight loss slows down. But don't worry about it because if it's a transformation contest, then you'll more than likely be judged based on a before and after picture(which shows a transformation), so highest amount of weight lost won't be important.

Good luck.

Well so far things have been going pretty good and in the first month I've had a 7% loss of body fat. I'm going to see if I can get that number to 10% for February and March.

I think it can be done....at 59, I dropped from over 220 to an even 160 and my only plan was riding a heavy mountain cruiser up to 35 miles a day and eating as many apples as I could...not the real sweet apples either. I did not time it but it was in part of a spring and most of the summer. Had no help at all just my determination!!! GOOD LUCK

PS: Started going to the gym and put 20 good pounds back on.

I lost approximately one pound last week

But I only have 7-10 pounds to lose depending on how much muscle I also build during this period.

Good luck to you too!

I'm going to push myself and I have more determination now than I had at the beginning. I can't wait to be able to post the before and after pictures for when I'm done
