I love to see movies that are based on books. I have seen several movies where I have read the book. The book has more details. Which do you perfer the book or the movie?

I love Stephen kings movies although I have never read his books which is weird...I love the Alex cross books as well as the movies, and the odd Thomas books and the movie..I hope they make more odd Thomas movies

I typically prefer the book to the movie-based-on-the-book.
Every now and then a film comes along that works well on its own.
In the end, I guess I'm a fan of both movies and books.

Not interested in seeing the movie. I read all three books and they weren't anything special, and they were poorly written and repetitious. But to each their own. Bring me some buttered popcorn and a box of Jujus, please.

Not interested in seeing the movie. I read all three books and they weren't anything special, and they were poorly written and repetitious. But to each their own. Bring me some buttered popcorn and a box of Jujus, please.
If the books were so unspecial, repetitious and poorly written, why did you read all three?

Because my daughter had loaned them to me and wanted to have a discussion about them. I felt I needed to know as much as she did on the subject.

I hate movies based on books. Books allow you your own imagination. If it's good writing, the rhythms and depth stays with you longer. It's a longer experience. However, cold mountain is a great movie!

The Blade Runner film was good. The book it was based on is Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K D*ck. The book is different, but also good. Deckard's ambition to earn money by "retiring" androids to buy a real animal is made more of in the book. The story takes place in a post apocalyptic Earth where animals are scarce.
The BBC TV six part version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is also really good, with excellent characterizations by the acting ensemble.

My boyfriend and I went to see Fifty Shades of Grey yesterday. It wasn't that great. We both almost went to sleep in the movie. Also the actress Dakota Johnson isn't that good looking. I don't really get the BDSM and don't want to be a part of that. I don't feel like a person should dominate another person. I would not recommend this movie to anyone.

I started reading 50 Shades and am up to about page 117. No serious BDSM yet, but Christian has shown Ana his red room of pain. I can't say I'm wildly enthused by lengthy descriptions of sexual encounters. I'd rather have a cup of tea.  The writing seems competent enough though. I like the technique of differentiating Ana's personal thoughts with italics. She mentions her "inner goddess" too often though. I'm bored with that term.

Jurassic Park was a fun movie to watch- but the book by Crichton absolutely riveted me.

50 shades' EL James is a HACK!
I liked the movie The Firm better than the John Grisham novel, simply because at that stage of his career Grisham hadn't learned to write an ending. The end of the novel was ludicrous, and was reworked for the movie into something that was still a bit of a stretch but slightly more believable.
A lot of his books have made pretty good movies, but that's the only one I can think of where I preferred the movie to the book.
