The folowing is adapted from a song, from WW2 Russia. The original was an expression of Love, unrequited in the face of duty. The popular title of that version was "The Four Steps to Death", so called for the final line.
The Title "Zemlyanka" means Dugout or bunker.Given the miserable weather....
The fire is flickering in the narrow stove.
Resin flows from the log like our tears,
and my harp is singing unto me of your
smiling eyes.
We are, both, now so very far away
expanses of ice stretch between us.
Warm thoughts carry my soul to you
over mountains darkened by the night.
I know we'll see a spring, Love
when all this cold has passed away
Your light and loving kisses
Will chase cold memories away

Thanks.Despite the Communist overtones(how else does one get a song published in soviet russia, right?)
The original has a sad beauty to it that I loved.

No.The original tune was a popular song in WW2 Soviet Russia. You only get work with Party approval, back then...Hell, likely now, too there.
[Side note:I am convinced that recent concerts by Madonna, Cher, and others, were allowed, only, to help the KGB, and NKVD flush out and identify homosexuals for persecution. To auote Admiral Ahkbar..."It's A Trap!"]
