Working out helps. Maybe you should get a gym membership. Its the healthiest and stay off when you working out to lose weight. You may not have to lose so much if you go the gym and lift weights and build muscles.

Look up simple low carb low fat recipes. They'll help with half of the calorie deficit that you need to lose weight. They should have at least a meat pattie's portion of protein. You can have a weekly high carb cheat meal to satisfy your cravings. It also helps keep your body from down-regulating calorie burning.

The other half of the calorie deficit needed to lose weight is exercise, and resistance exercise burns up calories the best as well as revs up your metabolism the longest, on top of rebuilding muscle lost through weight loss. Balance caloric intake with physical output.

In other words (just in case you don't understand what I mean) ...

Eat what you want to eat .. but exercise enough to burn off the same amount of calories you consumed.

Every body is different and no one has the answer for you, but you. Only you know your body. All I can tell you is what works for me and you can go from there:
First cut back on the carbs, salt and sugar. Drop the soda, chips, and fast food regularly. (A lot of people don’t know it, but most fast food isn’t even food, its processed crap with a small percentage of real food.) I usually eat oatmeal with sliced bananas or strawberries for breakfast or even in a protein shake. Lunch and dinner varies from a salad with spinach, lettuce, boiled eggs, meat, avocado and a light dressing. Also brown rice, chicken, beef or fish, and cabbage, squash, carrots or broccoli works for a great meal. Snack on fruits and low sodium nuts. Also, a good fruit and veggie smoothie hits the spot as a snack. Work out at least 3 times a week and build up from there. Bodybuilding websites also have a grip of info. I find that Heart Healthy diets (web search Heart Healthy) are a good foundation source, and you can go from there and add on, in order to not be so strict on yourself.
About ever two weeks, I cheap on the weekend to reward myself. Health and fitness is a lifestyle, its not a short term goal. If you are going to do it, one should do it right?
(If your are very overweight check with your doctor first, there could be other issues at hand.) I wish you the best and if you fail, try, try again until you achieve.
