I had the pleasure of visiting one of many state parks in Georgia and would like to return to visit many more this summer...Share where you've visited and other parks in Georgia that might be points of interest.Thank you!

FORT YARGO STATE PARK Located between Atlanta and Athens, Fort Yargo offers a fun camping, hiking and fishing experience. The park surrounds Marbury Creek Reservoir, a 260-acre lake with a swimming beach, fishing areas and boat ramps. Many campsites are near the water's edge, and hiking/biking trails follow the lake shore. Within the park is Will-A-Way Recreation Area, an accessible facility specifically designed for challenged populations, with a group camp, picnic and fishing areas, and paved trail. This historical park features a log fort built in 1792 by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians.

Pictures to follow.

I'm in Alabama but the closest one to me is probably Kolomoki Mounds north of Blakely (in SW GA). Nice big mound with stairs to the top. Also an excavated mound with a museum built into it and many old Indian artifacts on display. There as also a covered bridge close to the Alabama border between Blakely and Dothan at Coheelee Creek. Not really a state park but I think it is a state recreation area.

Thank you to all that replied. I think I'll start with Amicalola state park first,it seems to have a lot of the thinks I'm looking for like the The park's Maple Restaurant with spectacular views and Sunday brunch buffet and those seeking adventure, a five-mile hike leads to the Len Foote Hike Inn, Georgia’s only backcountry lodge.

Not sure where I'll head from there yet.

...I was hoping to get up there this spring..if you wait til full summer, it's hard to see the fall...I'd enjoy stopping in for some maple syrup too....It might be just an all day hike and enjoy and not overnight for me but just getting out and about up there is great!!! Keep me posted...
