Does anyone else sometimes miss the military? I did four years active duty Army, I hated it the whole time was in, but now I sometimes think back, and I wouldn't have traded some of those days for anything, crazy huh?

After 7 years in the Marines and a medical wish I could of finished and tired.

Had some good times and some bad times, but have that in civilian life too.

I was never in the military, but for a while, I was in the Civil Air Patrol. Do I miss it? Not really. I felt like I was nothing more than a baby sitter for the young cadets.

Perhaps when I retire, I might rejoin, and see what, if anything, has changed. But for now, I am glad to be out of it.

I miss working in law enforcement in the Army. Civilian opportunities never happened. Work for a department here for awhile then get laid off due to budget cuts. Work for another department for awhile more same thing happens. After so many times is it financially worth it to keep up with the certifications needed for the job. The physical requirements become more demanding as you get older having to compete against those younger than you.

At least in my experience working in law enforcement in the Army along with 2 major combat deployments during my 12 years of service the Army's 2 week civilian adjustment program did not prepare me for the cut throat civilian life after military service.

That is just my honest assessment and opinion. I am certain that there are those that will not agree with me. That is fine if it was or is different for you then great.

I don't miss ambushes, booby traps, wounded and dying or sleeping in the mud, fire ants, snakes, rats, elephant grass, leeches and incoming. I do miss my brothers and keep in touch with a few of them. Would I do it again? YES! If I could I would, but at 67 I cant and so I try to just do what I can for those in uniform and their families whenever possible. The Army never threw anything at me my dumbass didn't ask for. No complaints here.
