Depends on the situation. If she just got off work, and we were meeting for the first time, and she had a uniform on, I would overlook it. But if she showed up for the first date, wearing a moomoo, and pink curlers in her hair. It would be the last date.
This makes me wonder, what Picky would look like, in a moomoo, and pink curlers?

Yes..and no.
If someone shows up smelling...hair dirty...all that nasty stuff..then it wont be another date.
However...if he shows up..clean but not dressed up..and we had been communicating for some time...got along good...then no it wouldn't matter.
..knowing how to dress is important...it may not be the jeans..or t-shirt that's a big deal...but the brand.
If you show up with some off brand jeans, shirt and shoes...we got a little problem.

I really don't look at clothes. I know right away if i'm attracted to her by looking at her face. After that it's just about her personality and sense of humor and if she's going to get offended easily. I've noticed women talk a lot more about clothes than men. Complimenting me on my shoes and shirt and shit. I would have no idea what shoes you were wearing and if I told a woman she had a nice shirt it would probably be because her titties were popping out of it.

^^^I am not into what brand of clothes someone is wearing or care if their shoes are nike or whatever. But I do care if you took the time to look decent for a first date. Clean Levi's and a clean shirt will do.

I went out ONCE, with a girl who got smashed on beer while we were trying to be out dancing. Never bothered with her again.
Went out ONCE with another girl who insisted on lecturing me on how to behave in small ways.
Plenty of other people managed to put me off entirely while we were just getting to know each other, such that I never bothered to try further, even though they were very attractive.
Obviously, first impressions ARE the whole story, when you give up entirely on someone. But there are also lots of time when the initial impression was weak, or was boring, or was otherwise unimpressive, and later you change your mind.
So I think that for each person, there are probably certain things which MUST NOT HAPPEN, if there is to be a chance for a second impression. Other things that will be laughed about together later. And even the most extreme things, will have SOME people who will tolerate them.

I don't even go in and sit down with them...dirty shirt, smell, holes in clothes, dirty shoes or hats....I wouldn't make it much past the hello...I would say something about it and leave. No further contact would change my mind for a second opportunity either.
I am sure they will find someone out there in this big world that is accepting of their style, it just isn't me.

@Picky, it is not about the man dressing up fancy. It is more about his hygene. Is he clean, cloths clean, shaved, nails clean, etc? Oh is teeth brushed?
You see, his appearance tell me that he either does or does not have pride in how he looks, is not lazy, etc.
A slovenly dressed man tells me he did not think enough of me to look nice.
If the lady takes time out to look nice, so should the man.

It depends on the date. If we're going kayaking, hiking, wine fest, dinner, museum, concert .... would set the tone for the attire. IMO, if my date does't make any effort in his appearance than I may think he really is not all that interested. Clean, shaved, trimmed, smells good etc...
Don't over dress nor under dress
You only get one first impression. It does matter. No, it doesn't tell the whole story but could motivate you to continue to further read deeper into the next page of the story.
