I have been on a few dates since my husband passed. Main reason being I am meting men from failed relationships. They seem to forget that I am a widow and open up with all the bad stuff on the first date. Maybe its an omen. I don't have a lot of dating experience, is this normal?

Damaged men like to talk about their failed relationships because that is what they think you want to know about and they are not over it. They do not understand the concept of loss and grief because they are consumed with anger. They don't know how to be behave or have a conversation. They rant about child support like they have been harmed financially because of her...it never crosses their mind that if married still and in a loving relationship they would give every dime they earn for the family benefit. They take no ownership and learn nothing from the failure other than how to deflect responsibility. I could go on but it would be worthless.
What is important to note is men that are damaged from failed relationships continue to have failed relationships. This is not good for women that have had wonderful husbands that they have lost due to death. Healthy men that have been in loving relationships are what you need in your life. I found that dating another widow is best as they don't have that baggage. The divorced happy men are few and far between.

I agree. Also wanted to mention that many have the misconception that we widows have money xtra money left to them. I have been asked about that several times. I am contacted by every loser on datehookup once if not twice. They even change the name to try another approach. When I go out it is no different with the men I meet. Are there any men that don't mind standing on their own two feet or is it that since I have dated things have changed that drastically. I wouldn't dream of meeting a man for coffee and asking such personal questions before getting to know them.

I have only been approached for money and stuff by family and friends...
Apparently when your husband passes you have no use for tools, trucks, tractors, lawn mowers or anything he used around the house to upkeep!
I wonder if men who have lost a wife have family and friends that ask for the stove, vacuum, washing machine, dryer, her car, laundry hampers, pots and pans and dishes?

I was asked by several family members what I was going to do with her car, her clothes, her hair dryer etc......I thought about what she would like done with her items. I kept the car as my second car. I donated her hair dryer, makeup and other toiletries to a local battered women's shelter. I went thru her clothes and kept some of them for sentimental reasons (places we visited, birthday presents, etc.) Her best friend had three teenage daughters so I let her go thru the rest and let her take whatever she could use. The rest I donated to Goodwill.

I've read the last three posts. Those things also work the other way. I've had women who thought I wanted to hear about their failed relationships. I've had one woman who was more interested in what I had rather than who I was. It is tough being a widow/widower and dating again. We've got the pleasure to experience a good relationship and are now meeting people who have not.

As far as extra money widows may have left to them...
Some have with insurance policies.
Which depending on the amount it might get used up to pay for the funeral, pay off debt...or left for children and not the spouse.
Other widows are left with debt they cannot afford alone since they lost the spouses income. They lose their house and property becoming financially ruined by the loss. If they were completely dependent on the spouse and were not employed they could be starting over again living with parents, children or shelters.

opportunist, scammers, crooks, are usually very good talkers, and they just blow womens a** full of smoke, with the words they know they want to hear. and some women buy this bs. if a man asks you for money, run away, and never look back. JMO

Money is only one of the few thing asked for by the men I have met. They somehow conclude that I am love starved also and want to satisfy my needs without hesitation. I would like to have a few dates before sharing an STD or crabs with someone with the social graces of a mule. I just thought about dating because when I see people from the past the same question is always asked if I am still single like that is a crime. I took it as a cue to get out there and date.

Satisfy your needs! Does this only relate to sex or does it include things like automotive repair, electrical wiring, yard work and heavy lifting?
If it includes the laundry list, I would use them up!

Being single has ups and downs. Settling for someone less than what I had seems to be difficult for me. I just can't do it.

You are so right. I also meet a lot of younger men with child support payments so I can understand where men are with that. Its not easy finding a man that is free and clear with no hang-ups. Not only at my age but any age. I stay away from bars, churches and casino's when it comes to meeting a man. I also think any one getting into a relationship without closure of the past is only fooling themselves and have nothing to give.

yeah, but if a man mentions he wants a woman who can cook, and keep house, he is looked upon as awful.

Janet I understand your thoughts. I tried dating and it's not working. I won't become bitter, just go a different route. No, I didn't have any insurance money left after her passing. The funeral, Hospital, Doctors more than took care of that. So I found myself deep in debt.
As for her family. Her mother ask for her sewing machine at the cemetery just minutes after the funeral service. Others showed up at my door without warning wanting certain other things. I became a leper to them, no longer accepted and shunned.
