Please add...

Dried Red Pepper
The compound capsaicin puts the heat in chilies. It may lower the risk of skin and colon cancers; studies show it also helps people eat fewer calories. Try hot pepper on pizza or in pasta.

Nutmeg
Nutmeg contains antibacterial compounds that may help fight listeria, E. coli, and salmonella, according to research. Try nutmeg in soups or chicken dishes or on sweet potatoes.

Cumin
Cumin is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that may help stop tumor growth. Try cumin in tacos, or use it as a rub on meats.

Turmeric
Turmeric contains an active component called curcumin, which may stop cancer from spreading and help prevent type 2 diabetes. Try turmeric in soups, stews, or curry dishes.

Cinnamon
Just 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon daily lowers blood sugar, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and triglycerides in people with type 2 diabetes. Try cinnamon sprinkled on oatmeal or applesauce.

Ginger
Ginger can stop nausea and may also relieve heartburn and bloating. Try adding a few slices of fresh ginger to stir-fries or salad dressings.

Sage
This spice can help lower your cholesterol and blood pressure and generally reduce your risk of heart disease.
Add it to your diet by dipping a whole-grain roll in olive oil instead of butter. Then add a sprinkle of sage and black pepper.

Peppermint
Peppermint is a great source of vitamin C and A and can help soothe indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome.
Here's how you can add it to your diet: Puree 2 tablespoons fresh mint with 1/2 cup yogurt or ricotta cheese. Serve with berries.

Garlic
Garlic destroys cancer cells and may disrupt the metabolism of tumor cells, says Karen Collins, RD, nutrition advisor to the American Institute for Cancer Research. "Studies suggest that one or two cloves weekly provide cancer-protective benefits."

"Let garlic sit for 10 to 15 minutes after chopping and before cooking so the active form of the protective phytochemicals develops," says Collins. Saute fresh garlic over low heat and mix with pasta, red pepper flakes, and Parmesan cheese

Thanks for the posting. I am always looking up the benefits of common spices. I will copy this to refer to. I use all of them but found the spices all have to be pure. I live near a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's and that's much cheaper than ordering on line and can be kept fresh when purchased in smaller amounts. I also use a lot of garlic in my diet but I use 1=2 cloves daily if I can and white onions.

Good info. I too shop in organic markets...never on line.

BTW, I mix in a jar all the spices and use them in omelets and in most of my meals. The flavor and the healths get improved.

Turmeric has a finger in beauty as well since it's excellent to soften up mild psoriasis (elbows) and, also, to smooth the facial skin.

A colleague mentioned she takes rhodiola to increase her stamina; I searched the net and this is what I found.

Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea), sometimes called Arctic root or golden root, is considered an adaptogenic herb, meaning that it acts in non-specific ways to increase resistance to stress, without disturbing normal biological functions. The herb grows at high altitudes in the arctic areas of Europe and Asia, and its root has been used in traditional medicine in Russia and the Scandinavian countries for centuries. Studies of its medicinal applications have appeared in the scientific literature of Sweden, Norway, France, Germany, the Soviet Union and Iceland. Rhodiola is still widely used in Russia as a tonic and remedy for fatigue, poor attention span, and decreased memory; it is also believed to make workers more productive. In Sweden and other Scandinavian countries it is used to increase the capacity for mental work and to boost general strength and vitality.

Some people call them “Miracle Beans”. My mother and my cousin (the family doctor) call them Lupini. They work.

The Lupin Miracle Bean.
Today they are especially valued for their medicinal value in countries around the Mediterranean Basin, South America, and in Ethiopia.

Lupins, like other legumes, are of course known to be rich in protein, dietary fiber and minerals, but contain no starch. Lupins also have an energy rich oil content. All these constituents are often deficient in our modern diet.

We have seen thousands of people benefited by a natural lifestyle and diet – without the Miracle Bean. There are also many reports of people who have been benefited by use of the Miracle Bean – without their having made any significant changes to their lifestyle and diet. But can we realistically expect these benefits to be maintained while the consumer continues with deleterious lifestyle and dietary habits? It is our firm conviction that all Miracle Bean users should be encouraged to improve their lifestyle and diet while on a course of Miracle Beans (and for the rest of their lives),

to remove all possible impediments to recovery,
to hasten recovery, and
to avoid rapid remission.

After all, if most illnesses are diet and/or lifestyle related, it makes no sense taking Miracle Beans, (or medicine for that matter), while we continue with the very habits that made us ill in the first place. In fact, such an approach would simply constitute the sure guarantee of continued illness.

This is why the label on the Nature’s Choice Miracle Bean container places strong emphasis on lifestyle and dietary improvements. Miracle Beans only assist the body’s healing processes, they do not possess magical properties.
Why do some people come down with a cold soon after improving their lifestyle and dietary habits?

This is known as a healing crisis. In most cases, the body is taking advantage of improved vitality to engage in certain housekeeping chores that it never had the energy and ability to deal with in the past. There is usually no cause for alarm.

This phenomenon is discussed in depth in the free E-Book at www.keepwell.com. If you do not understand the true Nature of Disease and/or the Healing Crisis, please read at least chapters six to nine of this book – failing which you might become discouraged with your new lifestyle and diet and go back to your old eating and living habits. People who are encouraged to follow a wise lifestyle and diet must be made to understand that sometimes we have to get sick in order to get well.
What is the Best way to take the Miracle Bean?

Traditionally, raw Miracle Beans have been taken one hour before breakfast together with one or two glasses of water. Now that we have had some experience with the Miracle Bean, we would like to suggest that there is a better and a more natural way to take Miracle Beans. As from today’s date our labels will suggest this better way.

Miracle Beans should be taken together with breakfast as follows: Take 4 small (tiny) glasses (or bottles), place your daily bean quota in each glass and cover it with water. When you have taken the first day’s beans – together with the liquid, again place your quota of beans in the glass, cover them with water and place the glass at the back of the queue. On the fourth and following days the beans for that day would have been soaking for 4 days. Much of the goodness would thus be in the water – which should be drunk, and the beans would be softer and easier for the stomach to assimilate.

There are a number of reasons why we believe that this is a better way:

It makes no sense taking the beans with a lot of fluids because all fluids must leave the stomach before digestion can begin (before stomach acids can work on the beans)
Taking the beans one hour before breakfast will put the stomach into “digestion mode” for far longer than is natural – which will mean that the stomach is bathed in strong digestive acids for far longer than is natural (this may cause instead of cure ulcers)
Taking the soaked beans together with breakfast will promote better assimilation and will not burden the digestive system in any way.
Those who suffer from poor digestion, or who are low on stomach acid, may find that the beans will pass through the body unchanged. Far better, therefore, to first soak the beans for four days (or even to mill them) than to take them in their un-soaked state.
