When I was in Nam and we were in the thick of it I thought, "Screw this, let's call in a resupply of nothing but beer and let's all sit down and have a few and get over it." Never can understand why people want to rule and dominate others. Heck, just go away and tend to your own business.

gdaddy they defended their homeland the exact same way we would. It took me a long time to realize that . I know you came to recognize the same thing I did .We were there just for each other. All the political crap went out the wondow for us and we just wanted to get home in one piece.I like your post!

flying dustoff i guess i felt more like an observer than a participant in combat. in a way i think it was good to have a job that didn't involve killing people directly though i know we all were there because some a**holes in washington decided a bunch of folks needed to die. makes me sick just thinking about it.

Yeah JR I'm glad you didn't have to do any killing. It sucked. You were a brave soul flying dustoff. NVA didn't give a ratz azz about the cross on your Huey. You saw a lot
of hurt though. Thanks for your service. All the dead soldiers dead for the big war machine that made people and companies rich.
D*ckie, we as grunts helped you medics when we could. The medics I saw would work on guys with no regard for their own safety. When Doc said apply pressure here then you did what he said. Yep those people were defending their homeland.

I thought about how much money I was saving, especially since we didn't pay federal taxes. I didn't spend time feeling sorry for myself. I enjoyed combat. I miss it. We certainly didn't have beer or dope.

Sgt. Airborne during Vietnam drugs were everywhere, even little villages and if we were at a Firebase somebody had them. I tried weed there (in the rear) never had done anything like that before. If you were lucky enough to go to a basecamp alcohol was plentiful and sold at the PXs using a ration card!

I dunno Sgt Airborne, missing combat? I know what you're saying even with some of us nearly 50 years later. When I got home I really missed the rush of the whole thing. Nothing in the civilian world to replace it other than raising kids. When we left out of Dakto we had 46 walking. Started out with two companies and our company had 46 companies. I don't think I would want to do that again. Different war, different combat. Jungle, close in fighting was pretty mean especially when you were outnumber 5-6 to one. I would've done it again if needed but that wasn't the case. Heck, I don't know if we had any medics left.

During the time I was there, I mostly thought of wanting one more day of getting through it all. Ran the gamut between mind-bending boredom to stark terror quite a few times. But still was able to do what had to be done every day. Was a bit lost after returning home but being older and hopefully wiser, I don't miss it in the slightest now. Drugs? Alcohol? Covered a lot of Nam and was never in a place where they were not available and plentiful.

MJM good story. Yeah that's a way to describe it. Pure boredom to stark madness. Walking through the jungle and then automatic fire when we walk into an ambush. Then it's on like Donkey-Kong. Miserable humps in the heat, humidity, bugs, snakes, punji pits, monsoon rain, etc... . In the Highlands it was surreal. Huge tall a** trees and a blanket of steam at times. I remember standing by a cliff-side and looking down hundreds of feet and seeing an F-4 Phantom trolling one morning. I felt something move on my side and it was a black scorpion. I was leaning on my 60 and wouldn't move. A couple of guys came over and took my 60 and I slapped the damn thing off me and the guys smashed it.
VWconvert, what a horrible thing that would've been but we've seen it

I see it in slow motion now in my dreams at times.Nothing like it was. days of misery followed by nearly paralyzing fear for what every one was doing around me and knowing it was my job to take care of them and sometimes couldnt. Its hard to describe to anyone who hasnt been in it. But if I could I would do it all over.

I know it sounds like bravado, but that was really the only thing that scared the living Hell outta me. Idk... not being able to walk, f**k, or drive? Only things I gave a shit about back then. Not much has changed.

When I was killing communists ... Jews, that is ... I never once thought the same people I was sniping for the good of my country would one day take it over and do 911.

What's up with you supporting the enemy, Mr. shabbos goy ?
Or, are you ...
FOR gun control?
FOR the homosexual agenda?
FOR same sex marriage?
FOR open immigration?
FOR political correctness?
FOR mass surveillance?
FOR the eradication of Christmas and other Christian holidays?
Care to make a wild guess as to who is behind those agendas?
Go ahead...guess.
