Blatantly stolen, 'cause I thought it was a good topic for those who like the q & a threads.
Halloween approaches, so the spookies are being shown on the tube, sometimes in marathons. As I love horror movies, it doesn't have to be Halloween for me to enjoy these movies... but the season makes it that much more fun.
I don't expect this thread to survive, as most of my ideas are shitty and most of my threads die quickly... but maybe it would be neat if the thread survived on, and then the seasons turn and we could focus on family movies during Thanksgiving, your favorite Christmas or holiday movie when that time rolls around.
And it doesn't have to coincide with the season at hand. Just because Halloween is nigh doesn't mean you can't enjoy "Dirty Harry" or "Sleepless in Seattle" during the time.
Have fun with it.
OT: Probably my all time favorite horror movie, John Carpenter's "The Thing"

That is a really great and awesome movie. I watched it on t.v. when I was a kid.
I remember watching a lot of good movies that were released on the three major television stations.
Jaws... Amityville Horror...Dallas,.Who Shot J.R.?
But The Thing was very awesome.
Savage way to go, being punched in the stomach when you're back is turned, but there you go.
I suppose you could put a Kermit the Frog puppet on top of that for fun and I'm waiting for this acid reflux to set in like a kung fu grip action figure.
Carpenter passed away a few months ago y'know.
OH, he was FROM Kentuck.y

I didn't hear about Carpenter dying, Bards. I just looked and his Wiki doesn't have a passing. When celebs die, someone always posts it somewhere immediately. I knew We Craven died, tho.
Trk, also read it. Check it out:
http://www.outpost31.com/books/who.txt
Rainy, did you know they're rebooting that with women as the Ghostbusters? True deal. Lots of backlash about that. Read that Ernie Hudson has signed on.
Lauren, the original or the Rob Zombie remake. Original will always hold a place for enthusiasts... but I did like the remake.
7777 I was the biggest Friday the 13th geek when I was growing up. I bought 1-7 on DVD a while back. Always hated 8, 9, & 10 though.
OT: the ORIGINAL Hellraiser, and Hellbound.

I like both, but probably the original best. I've only seen the new ones maybe once or twice. I LOVE Rob Zombie's movies (the Devil's Rejects, and House of 1000 Corpses)
I've have to watch Hellraiser. I've never seen it, and somebody told me to watch it.

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. I do have a harder time watching the older movies now-a-days. They just seem cheesier than ever the further along we get. Lol. I tried watching the marathon of Friday the 13th recently and couldn't take it. Haha

I have a book titled 'The world turned upside down.' its a collection of Scifi stories written from the thirties and up. This book is a gold mine! I could not put it down! Some awesome scifi in there! One story was from a trilogy of books , this particular tugged at the old Turks heartstrings.
But all the stories were awesome!

I did the exact same thing, Lauren. I made it about halfway through part 3 and thought to myself, "I used to like this cheesy shit?" Part 5 got a bit better, but when you could see the rigging on one of the murder props, I had to shut it off.
Hellraiser has a few holey effect, Hellbound's effects are better. I think the first one's story is a touch better, though.
Turk, my man... maybe you can help me. I've been searching for a short story for some time now, and every time I start I end up in a dead end. I want to say its title was "They" or "Them". About something that "jumps" in to people and make them do things they would never do like a one night stand or rob a bank.
I had read it in one of those anthology books when I was like 14 or 16. Can't remember if it was a sci-fi or horror anthology, though think it was horror since Stephen King was one of the short story authors.
For the life of me I cannot find that story or the author. Does it ring any bells for you?
Jakester.. I think he was better in the "Sprockets" skits.
OT: The original "A Nightmare On Elm Street". Only one I'll own or watch.

Yeah, but I dislike any movie he's in.
I don't care if he's the wueen of wales I despise it.
Biggy....maybe it was wes cravens and no great loss to me.
I thought it was carpenter.
ot, it sounds like the dreadlock woman in the movie ghost., face of vengeance
@trk, some of those old sci fi were pretty unevolved in a few ways
Anyone see the remake of The Shining with that guy from the police academy movies???
That totally bit balls.
I'll say The Shining. It's one of my favorites....and I can't wait to see again the old wrinkly broad waiting to turn me off in the nude scene.

No, Tams. I ran across that some years back in hopes it was it... unfortunately
If I remember the story correctly, "they" or "them" caused people to do things they normally wouldn't. One was a woman who had wild, casual sex and then "they" jumped out of her right after and she realized what she had done and was ashamed. Another instance was a man who committed a nasty robbery or something of the like, was arrested after "they" had jumped out of him, and had no idea what the authorities were talking about.
"They" or "Them" attached to your psyche almost like a virus or maybe even like a possession, made people do things (usually debased type things) and then moved on, and the people had no recollection of the act or why.
Been searching for years and cannot come up with it. Also been looking for a series of stories (books, maybe.. was told about them) about Jesus in different scenarios throughout time. The guy who told me about them said something about a war (maybe Korean?) and a guy was brought in to triage with an unexploded bomb or mortar in his head. Doctors thought he was a goner, no way someone could survive that wound.. but they remove the ordinance anyways and to their astonishment the bone and skin, face, brain all grow back. The one doctor comes to find out the soldier was Christ, and the stories are his adventures through wars and whatnot through history.

I have a more odd reference.
This movie has caused me more ponderation and vex than any other, ever..in my life.
There's a scene,, that has a very large carrot, or rather it's a guy in a carrot costume and that's of knowledge in the movie...it msy be a halloween flick, and he's chasing these trick or treaters down an old dusty farm town road...there's a bike involved somehow, and of course it's an old time black and white.
The child actors might have been the famous, but it seems to be encrusted upon my grey matter synapses.
I'd love to see that movie again onec, at least, as I did then.
The chase is, I think in a perpetual loop and it might be a dream sequence.
